Edit: Right now I'm looking at <a href='http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16836121120' target='_blank'>these</a>, but I'd like to hear some more suggestions before I buy them.

Purdy. And about $150 cheaper than from Logitech.com

I highly recommend 5.1 for gaming. It cannot be understated how much hearing exactly where the sound is coming from can make a difference, especially in Source engine stuff.

Bose are always a good choice, they actually try to research how sound works when they make good speakers. My car has some, and my god do they sound good <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Try to find an optical connection for whatever youre buying, that will ensure 100% true surround instead of emulated.

The ones your looking at are great. Ive got the Z-5300, and they work great... The first thing i did was get a new sound card to make sure it was true 5.1 only because my onboard sound didnt have 5.1 capiblities... Make sure you look out for that. Thats another 20-100 bucks for a sound card.

What do you mean you broke down, that was a good choice and i dont think you can get anything better for that price. If you could waiting wouldnt be worth it. Let me tell you i waited for my speakers, i was going to either get dells 5.1 system or the one i got now, if i didnt wait i woulda had them sooner, plus i heard that dells 5.1 system sucks. So dont regret what you got, because it just isnt worth thinking about it.

I've had the same set for a few months now using the optical connection. You won't be disappointed <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Well I'll be damned. That's what my brother has, and they're sitting next to me right now as he brought his comp down for the summer.

Believe me you won't be dissapointed.

Bah, it doesn't look like my audigy has an optical port. I guess I'll have to use my on-board port and hope for the best. From what I've heard, my on-board sound is better than Creative's stuff anyway (doh!), so I should be okay.

From several years experience actually selling IT equipment, I would strongly suggest you buy a real speaker set and a decent amp. Preferably from an independent hi-fi specialist.

Obviously this won't be practical if you want your speakers very near your PC/monitor, but otherwise, I can't recommend proper speakers enough.

Simply put, branded, shielded (they generally aren't well shielded enough) PC speakers are significantly marked up to sell to clueless home users. If you spend $/£250 on a set of "PC speakers" you'll get about $/£125 worth of product.

Not only are the speakers inferior to hi-fi speakers in terms of fidelity, output and warmth, but they're also vastly less well built and have less than half the active product life of proper speakers.

But they do have a FAT profit margin on them, so there'll never be a shortage of clueless retards trying to sell the benefits to you. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
