<div class="IPBDescription">new dave matthews band cd</div> I haven't listened to it yet, because I don't want to spoil the experience by listening to it **** off. Be forewarned, if you were considering purchasing this album, that it has some really lame copy protection that INSTALLS A NEW CD DRIVER THAT GARBLES THE CD.
Jesus.
I don't know about you, but I cannot stand being treated like a criminal when trying to use a product I've legitimately purchased.
If you need help getting around it, try this link <a href='http://www.cs.princeton.edu/~jhalderm/cd3/' target='_blank'>http://www.cs.princeton.edu/~jhalderm/cd3/</a> It might take a little fineggling to get the driver to appear.
If this is the way BMG and Dave Matthews Band intend on treating their customers, then I'm happy to take my business elsewhere.
Edit: I should add, I've successfully ripped it, so all this succeeded in doing is **** me off first.

Unfortunately these new CD's are starting to do this and it's not going to stop, so I'd just say that we are screwed no matter what.
I remember doing the same with my A Perfect Circle CD. Copy protection didn't stop me ripping it, it only stopped my CD player from playing it, which is what made me decide to rip it instead. Nice work RIAA.
*EDIT* Dave Matthews Band, I like your taste <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Wonder how they'll stop that. A decoder chip in our ears with encrypted music maybe? <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Reminds me of cheating-death (or mp_blockscripts <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> ). Pathetic.
Well, perhaps profit sends the wrong message. Try 'Be Happy' <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
You pay for what you get! + hidden surprises
i.e. Prostitutes like to give you some extra...STDs...gotta read the fine print first!
Bye bye BMG, left-shift when inserting CD > All copy protections.
The only one to actually refuse to read was Shakira's album, Laundry Day, but that was circumvented by sticking in work's CD Replicator, and doing a non-protected copy!
CD Replicators FTW! (not being use illegally mind you. We use it for making copies of driver CD's. No, sorry, "backups" of them... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

Wait so let me get this straight...
..You have Shakiras album...
Anti-Piracy measures promote piracy.
Dowload Knoppix
Put Knoppix into your CD Drive
Reboot
Rip CD onto HDD
Reboot
Although it was probably more of the record label's decision than the band's.

Yeah, that's the sad part. I'm nearly positive its BMG and not DMB that mandated this. DMB does have an open taping policy.
Ahah! *ahem* Yeh copy protection sucks, but fair enough for them if so many people are gonna make loads of copies or upload the album or whatever. A mild irritation that can always be got around, twould seem...
Their argument is not that it "destroys your property" it just "forces their program instead of your normal player"
I suppose it's one of those things where the CD can only be read on a proprietary player?
Except of course, for those people who don't have one . . .

Poor artists not getting any money.
...
This board needs a sad-puppydog emoticon.
i lolled because you have the pirate king as your avatar
I doubt this will ever become economically feasible (the consumer factor) but the fact that they're even thinking about it scares me.

And then you put the DVD into your DVD drive, rip an image of it (removing the FBI warnings and other nonsense), then make a region-free copy of it. :o
Copy protection and DRM (digital rights management) is a joke now.
If they can hack custom operating systems/homebrew code onto an XBOX/PS2, how hard can it really be to make a copy of some form of digital media and ignore the anti-piracy features of it?
Besides, your DVD player would have to be compatible with this new "protection" for it to even work.
The FCC proposed it's "broadcast flag" that would have made it harder for people to record shows off of the TV and distribute them on the internet, but it was unanimously struck down. The same thing would happen with this. Forcing a brand new (stupid) standard onto all hardware manufacturers won't go over well either.
Hopefully they'll soon realize that no form of digital media can ever be TRULY protected, and they'll give up trying to treat consumers like criminals.

It's not like release-groups (pH, iRO, dvr, RNS, RH etc etc etc) uses windows so this has any affect on them. The albums will spread on the internet anyway - this only affects the regular users who want to listen to their newly purchased cds on their computer.
I really wonder how long its going to take these executives to get this. If you can listen to it/ watch it you can copy it. Always. There is nothing they can do about it.
