Mezmerize... AWESOMENESS
After only buying this album like... an hour ago, I can emplore you to buy it, and listen OVER AND OVER. It's a true masterpiece. You would have expected all this anti bush/america/war thing going on, which is true, but, it's not just targeted at the U.S, there's alot of anti terrorism stuff on it, and very very meaningful.

I liked 'em when I was fourteen Still have the shirt in my closet. And then what was it Toxicity came out and I killed it for myself by listening to it way too much and right about now, I can't stand Serj's screeching any longer.

Now if you want a band-and-a-half (or half a band?), Audioslave's new album is out on the 24th.

I'd buy that too... but it's out like 2 days prior to my BIRFDAY so I'll be getting it from the missus or something.

• raz0rraz0r Join Date: 2003-07-24 Member: 18395Members
I've listened to a couple of songs on my friend's copy, and i'll be picking ir up tomorrow.

Radio/Video reeks of awesomeness

I've only ever found a few SOAD songs I really like, and those are generally the ones with some real tune to them. Some of it just seems to be...noise...with screaming in various voices...

But my mate has bought it, so I shall borrow it and get back to you with my official wise judgement.

it's not about tune... listen to the lyrics... they're so secretly deep. Even Cigaro which busts lyrics like

"My **** is much bigger than yours"
It all has meaning and substance... this is non commercialized rock at its best.

Having listened to all the songs, I have to say its the best SOAD I have ever heard - and coming from someone who isn't too keen on them, all you non-believers should believe me! Found more songs on here that I like than I've found in the rest of their stuff put together, or what I've heard of it.

First time I've ever heard a vaguely timid song by them too, Lost In Hollywood - very good! When they try, they CAN succeed!

I like the new album, just what i expected to be.
SOAD is getting better and better, and i hope they will keep their style for long.
B.Y.O.B. ftw!

Well, if you look awesome up in the musical dictionary you'll have SOAD listed at the top. I am, however, slightly biased as the are my favourite band ever!
• raz0rraz0r Join Date: 2003-07-24 Member: 18395Members
Having just bought the album today, I have to say that it rocks.

Violent Pornography is an awesome song.

Now i'm sure looking forward to the concert i'm going to in june

Just back from the shop, and listening to it while working.

However, I will give out my true opinion later, when I actually am attentive to the music.

SOAD has really impressed me since their SOAD album. SOAD was pure pwn, Toxicity was even more awesome, Steal This Album was really good too, and this seems even better than the previous album. They just can't seem to be able to deceive me

If you think that has meaning then they could probably write a song about rubber ducks and you'd think it had meaning.

"RUBBER DUCKS FLOAT IN WATER! YES THEY DO!
SMASH THE ESTABLISHMENT WITH RUBBER DUCKS!"

shall I elaborate on what the "My **** is much bigger than yours" means.

Basically it refers to the US and UN. When the US was getting ready for the Iraq war they took it to UN, and UN told them to go die (They veto'd). Then the US was like "Nah TF to that man, we're having this war". Then the UN and the US had a month long **** contest about who had more power, eventually the US won and got their war.

They make some silly songs (Bounce, Cigaro), but overall this album is to be judged with songs such as Revenga, Sad Statue (truly the ones that stand out) but also both Hollywood songs, Violent Pornography and Radio/Video.

They're really the highlight of the album, but if you like their style, you'll love every track.

Edit: I don't analyze every word of the songs, I can't find stuff like Owen just taught me.

As a SOAD fan who dedicates his online gaming name to their very first song,
I bought their new album w/o question.

And....
It's good,but not good enough. 4th in line,next to SOAD,Toxicity and STA!
All the songs are good, but they lack that 'kick' about them.
It's like listening to a different genre of band. Suddenly we have electronics in Old School Hollywood.
It's all good, but I preferred their original stuff.
Their 1st album is still their best one.
BYOB isn't that good a song,Cigaro is better, best one is perhaps Sad Statue or Cocaine or Violent Pornography.

Now I think about it,the whole album is just damn good!!
Summary,it's a different album which lacks their earlier mentality, but still a wortht purchase.
But any new SOAD fans go buy their 1st album.

Hmm, heard BYOB and it sounds like about 5 decent songs all cut and pasted together, so it doesn't really fit together. I might check out the album to see if theres better stuff on it though.
• Cereal_KillRCereal_KillR Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1837Members
There's nearly only better stuff, imo, BYOB isn't the best out of the album.

If I was to list the albums from best to worst, it would be : Toxicity/SOAD (nearly as good one as the other) then Mezmerize, then STA.

So that's why all those drunks down at the bar kept saying that. They wanted to overpower my veto.

Genius.
