Evolution Health Boost?

IcculusIcculus Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 26Members
<div class="IPBDescription">still in?</div> As I understood it from the patch notes you arent supposed to get full health and armor when taking a new trait anymore? Am i misreading? Today on 2 different 1.02 servers i took cloaking as a fade when at less than 50 health, and then had full 200/150 when gestation was done. Just looking for a clarification from someone out there....

I thought it was supposed to retain the original health as well, but it seems like it gives full health and armor after evolution of any kind

I like the health regain. Even if it's a bug, we can't help it. It seems logical anyway. You're a biological creature, and when you enter gestation, it's basically a form of hibernation and evolution, obviously having new organs, changed organs, and new/changed body parts.

    But it should be there.

If you are a skulk you only have 50 armour to begin with.

If you lose 30, and that means you still have that when you become an onus you will still only have 20, whereas if you were an onus to start with you would still have 130.

Should be left in, and explained via gestating health regain.

irregardless of whether it SHOULD be in or not (i think it should), the patch update stated it was removed, and yet it remains.

    nonononono

idea was that you only get the %% of hp/ar that you had (it you at 30 out of 50 now u should have 100 you get 60)

I like it how it is. It gives you the option to regain health at the cost of time, vunerablilty, and resource points.

    PS
    Irregardless isn't a word. (It's regardless -- "without regard")

I noticed it too... I still got full health.

I think the biggest gripe I have with it is this... Shotting an evolving egg, and not killing it completely, so it then pops out a fade with full health, who then tears me to shreds while i'm trying to reload. Aliens can get regen, they don't need another way to get auto-healed, face it. Humans have trouble getting health just because a commander isn't always gonna drop it, but you've got gorges, regen, def chambers, and something they obviously thought was wrong, full health after evolving, cuz they wouldn't have tried to fix it if it was perfectly fine...

I don't really have too much of a problem with an alien regaining health when they evolve. However, I definately think that damage taken while in the egg form should be applied towards their evolved form at the very least.

I have to admit, the full HP after gestating is fine with me, makes more sence to leave it go. I do get annoyed with creatuers evolving and I put soo much damage in that little egg and it pops out and kills me. I think if you damage it, it should slow down because it would have to heal the damage you just did. It makes sence, I mean if you were shot while realisticly it could cause deformed body stuff. But that would just be stupid to run around without a arm or something. If you had to wait longer it would be better.

To be honest, I don't really see anything wrong with the 'boost' that evolving to a new life form gives. Skulk->fade, lurker, etc....
I think the real issue is when someone is doing a simple upgrade, which takes much less time and just adds a basic boost. Health/armor is replenished then, and for that reason when I play aliens I usually don't bother upgrading my sensory attribute until I need to heal (once we've got 3 hives). When I do, I just find a nice corner and upgrade cloaking, and when I come out I'm already cloaked, soo...

I agree. But I also think that any damage sustained while in egg form should be somehow applied to the newly evolved creature. Or, evolution should be halted while being shot as an egg. Or, have a deformed, three-headed Onos pop out at the end!

Yep, I've noticed the same thing. After reading that it was changed with the patch, I muttered about how that would remove a tiny little perk of upgrading, but of course when I actually played it was still there.

I think technically, it does make sense. A gestating alien would pretty much be rebuilding its body with the raw materials that the resource points provide, so no matter how it started, it would be fresh and new and pretty when it came out. But balance-wise...well, I don't think it's a game killer, but in all reality it would probably be better to make it like the patch was supposed to do.

well i think it should be left in even with ur upgrading certain parts effect because its an EGG its a protection layer so ur not able to HIT the CREATURE itself...and also think of it like a little extra aliens get that humans dun get just like how aliens do not really havea counterpart to fight off sieges... or how marines dun have limits to the amounts of turrets they can build... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    <i>ir·re·gard·less (r-gärdls) adv. Nonstandard:
    Regardless.</i>

Anyways, I have a little trick along those lines. I don't actually research regen, I go off and fight until I've got about 50% health, then I run around a corner and research. Poof! Full health.

True, if you are to evolve the organism's body parts are reformed...But, it's not fair to be able to get hp back that way, in my opinion.

Please, don't even try to push the word "irregardless" as being correct. It isn't. Thank you.

Is it just me or didn't the marines get the same bug now? I was out in the field, was down to 15 armor or so... next time I looked, I had 70, and I could have sworn noone had been even close to me with a welder. It could be that when the commander researches a new armor level, all marines gets a new set of armor automatically... which, if true, I'd have a hard time rationalizing.

For an alien, running around unupgraded in order to have a heal available seems to be a strategic choice, really ... it's great if you know you are going to try to take out a turret - run in, chew some, run out, upgrade and repeat.

However, you can only take half the hits if you skip on the lvl 3 carap. And skimping celerity or adrenaline makes you fight a lot worse. So if you meet a marine, you might die to regret it.

Of course, it's about the only use for the sensory upgrade, but...

Hrm, I did a little research on the little word on Merriam-Webster.

    Main Entry: ir·re·gard·less
    Pronunciation: "ir-i-'gärd-l&s
    Function: adverb
Etymology: probably blend of irrespective and regardless
    Date: circa 1912
    nonstandard : REGARDLESS
usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

Back on topic, I actually have not noticed the Marine armor upgrade. Usually too busy dying, but I will keep an eye out, thanks for the tip. And I agree with the alien egg damage in final form. However, slower gestation may tend to anger players who would rather die than have a Marine camp the egg and shoot a few times every few seconds.

This is a great idea. But regaining health when morphing should be kept
