Anyway To Play With Just Counter-strike?

I bought Condition Zero a while back and once you install that you get normal CS along with it. Now I got normal CS installed on my comp, is there anyway to play NS with that? I read in another topic that said you can use CS 1.6 or something. How exactly do you go about doing that? I tried running the game but when I go to join a server Steam's game browser instantly pops up which leads me to believe that I need Half-Life. I can't stand Steam..why can't it just let me play the ****ing game? I have necessary files for it from CS!!

    as far as i know:

To play Cs 1.6 you need HalfLife.

that means if you are able to play 1.6 you have the hl files.
that means you are able to play ns

Try copying the valvle folder from CS into a halflife folder, that way it will think you have HL? because for the Ns files its looking in the half-life/ns folder isnt it??

does half-life appear on the "my games" list in Steam? if it does, download it and then try installing ns again.

Half-Life isn't on my games list, but Counter-Strike is. I guess you just need Half-Life to play, and that is that. But it IS weird considering CS uses the same engine/files as Half-Life, so why not be able to play it with that?

As me and my friends discovered, you need Half Life to play NS.
Pretty pathetic, as CS cost more than Half Life but if you buy HL you get CS for free AND you get all the other good mods such as NS, The Specialist and The Battlegrounds <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

After some prompting Flayra's got an FAQ post about this issue <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/view?action=faq' target='_blank'> in the FAQ</a>.

Personally I think if you're foolish enough to buy CS as a standalone game you got what you deserved. Shop around, invesitage. Check things up before you part with your cash. You got what you paid for, but as has been mentioned, you could have got more for less.

Yes, CS retail only has some of the HL files to make it work.

All other mods will need the complete HL files, i.e. original HL 1 to run NS and any other mod out there.

Fraid you'll have to get a copy of HL to play NS.
