any know anything about it?
I was reading our finnish game magazine "PELIT" and saw there article about Darwinia its game where you need to use programs to gain souls and destroy viruses.

Bit like sacrifice maybe, problem is that the article didnt give away so much info and it promptly said on end that you must order it.

So anyone has played this game or seen it?

Having played the demo, it seems a lot of fun, although it may be an acquired taste, so to speak.

Darwinia has some of the coolest sound effects I have ever heard.

    And awesome gameplay.

You (yes, you) have logged on to Darwinia, a virtual theme park. However, the Darwinians (little digital lifeforms) are under attack. A virus threatens their existence.

With the assistance of the game's creator (who handles research), you must help the Darwinians purge the virus from their fair, polygonal world. You create programs to help the Darwinians (Squad, Engineer, Officer, Armour). The Darwinians will work the various machines you come across, as well as packing some heat later on.

My biggest complaint is how short it is. There's something like ten levels. I wish it had a bit more padding. The easiness of it doesn't help here - the only time I had to put that much effort in was taking back the very last island on the final level.

I would rate it a Jaffa Cake (or delicious biscuit of your choice). Very nice, well put together, but won't last long.

Oh, if you do buy it, make sure you get the patch ASAP.

very cool appearance and sounds, and unique design, but very short-lived. you'll think it's awesome for a few hours, but then realize there's nothing left to do...

one thing that bugged me is that for pretty much the first half of the game, they have you working toward some 'weapon' that's supposed to level the playing field against your opponents... but the weapon isn't even all that impressive in the end, and usually kills more of my own darwinians than the enemy viruses -_-

I bought it about a month ago and its a really fun game, great gameplay, sounds and graphics. All in all it's a fun game, worth a try.

Actually, I found the armours to be awesome, especially when you upgrade them to version 2.0. After I got them, I only used my squads for special search-and-destroy missions. The armours handled the rest.

The game is nice, but it ends pretty quickly in terms of its usefulness past the SP maps. Also once too many in game things spawn, it gets laggy and before the patch there were memory leak issues. Its ok but its not really worth it IMO.

    It rocks.

Plus it gets props for its nod to Cannon Fodder.

you can't move them once you place them though, right? nor can you tell the darwinians to unman them?

still, you're probably right; I should give them another try. all I know is they kept killing my own darwinians the couple times I used em =p

Worth the $20 if you've got nothing better to play, or if you love the idea of commanding a virtual army of virtual citizens.

It's one of those games that focus of gameplay and not graphics. Excellent game.

In fact, I might even go so far as to say it's on par with the incredible game Uplink. Except you really can't compare them, because they have different good points.

Darwinia has better presentation, but Uplink will have you sweating with stress as you keep an eye on the progress bar and the countdown timer.

Darwinia is pretty damn fun. It was made by four young lads in their bedrooms. They also made uplink.

    I can't wait for MP.

Not really. Tetris has less repetitive gameplay..

But I do love it so, I converted the rising soul bootloader to a screensaver, making a flash minigame and a mod.
