It's fairly obvious that Depot is referring to the oldest competitive clan, which is a reasonable minimum requirement for validation, since otherwise (as someone else has brought up) it's just a couple of guys with a tag.

If it's not competitive, then I could argue that me, Puzl and Joev win, because we are in Jarhedz (formerly known as RaDoX) and that has existed for donkey's years. Besides which, any clan comprised of two Devs and a QA Lead is clearly formed of concentrated 1337.

I like that mesure Grendel it would solidify my clans claim to be the oldest active clan, we have never had less then 8 people in FFT from the start of NS, and with four current playtesters, and two devs who no longer play for us FFT we bost a very strong community linked roster. Not only are we active currently we have feilded delta level players for years.

    Current PT's:
    Fangs
    Spacemoogle5
    Narfwak
    Athena

Devs who have played for FFT in CAL:

    Zunni
    Grepdashv

I love how Depot (Larry) uses IRC channels as the mesure of a clans age, thats classy.

Like I said make all the lists you want FFT is the oldest Clan that was active sience the first day NS was released. We have never "reformed" or failed to have at least 8 players and from January 2003 forward we have never failed to have at least 12 members. even at our entry into NS play we always had at least 8 for the first two months. We may not be the clan with the "oldest" irc channel, but we are the oldest clan.

That's a fairly accurate analysis Grendel, thanks ... <u>reasonable</u> being the key word.

Again, creation of an IRC channel is only one method of determining how long a clan has been around. A whois on a website would also show how long they've been active. As to all the other criteria you insist you've met throughout this thread, all you've done is pimp your accomplishments or involvement in the community. That's all well and good, but hardly relevant to what I am trying to establish. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

On the North American side of things Exigent and Confederacy have both been playing since CAL's so-called Season 0 (it was the Preseason that lasted for like 14 weeks playing 1.04). However (and I don't know the exact history here) Exigent changed names to Envy (and apparently IRC channels) for Season 1 so #exigent has only been registered for 1 year and 11 weeks. Confederacy share their public channel (#co) with the other Confed divisions so its !info is a bit misleading (3 years and 30 weeks). We (Darwin's Law) started up just as 1.04 was being replaced by 2.0, and joined CAL and UGL in their First NS seasons. We are at 1 year and 47 weeks according to !info.

As far as I know we are the only 3 clans still actively competiting from Season 1 of CAL (TMM were in Season 1, but they just recently reformed after disbanding for several seasons) though Exigent (if you count their time as Envy) is the only one of the 3 that hasn't taken a significant (6+ weeks) break from participating in CAL.

LOL I sat down and thought about this... Why are we pleading a case to Larry?

if you want some valadation on something you go to someone with authority, Larry is not one of those people.

This is like going to a meater maid when someone is trying to kill you. So rather and saing OH LARRY PLEEEEEASE BELIEVE US, I am going to say this.

We have been playing since day one, as a clan, if you do not believe me(because it is VERY important to my e-go that you do) then I will NEVER be able to persuade you. And this is directed squarely at Larry, why would a grown man lie to you about something as trivial as this, so I don't take kindly to you implying that Fangs lying on this topic, and I don't think Fangs appriciates it either.

here is what I will say to anyone who wants to know:

I have been playing NS since 1.0 since turret factories could be gone, and turrets still worked, since comms could kill hives from the chair with LMG's. And every game was a jp hmg rush. I have always worn the FFT tag and will always do so... unless I am playing for another team for competitive purposes.

[FFT] Scrimmed for the first time on NS_tanith in 2.0a and [C*B] took us to task.

We played in CAL starting in Season 1, we have played in Omega, Gamma(if you remember that) and delta. We earned notority for the biggest upset in CAL NS history.

we played in UGL for one season, but we withdrew when the admin showed his true colors late in the season. This admin went so far as to twist his rules and changed the wording of the rules, and the tiebreak system as the playoffs started.

We do not scrim at the moment at all, we simply enjoy each others company and light up pubs, and the occasional pug. And our roster has never been below 8 EVER, and at the moment is nice and plump.

To clairify, the groups you see in CAL are not clans, they are teams, and I believe there is a difference. I know from personal experience that clans can field 2 teams, FFT has done such a thing in the past. Exignet fields teams in 3 different half life mods, so more than just CAL or competition in general defines a clan.

IMHO a clan is a group of people who all share a love for a game, or a want to excel at a game, so they band together, and share a tag(usually, some clans never tag up) . A team is a group that wants to play competitivly, some are both, but not all.

    [Not Pointless] [Caution Drama ahead]

Getting back to my original point, this thread is just bringing up more bad blood between the people who are still around from day one, and the guy who wants to be a sombody in the community, but sadly.... just isn't. The people who matter to us, the devs, our friends, and our fan(headcrab) know what the deal is.

I won't sit here and plead my case, or beg for something that I already own. So rather than put in the work to get logs and sworn statements from elder community members, to prove that FFT was here on launch day,, and satisfy depot's need to know who is the eldest clan/want to annoy me, I will instead say this, I DON'T CARE WHAT LARRY THINKS! I know what the truth is, and if I am coming of as a bit of a cocky menie(gg swear filter), that is becuse I am up to my neck in drama, and I don't really care if I get some more at this point.

Pretty much anyone with the abiltiy to listen, and think respects my word, all my friends and family respect my word, everyone in NSRadio and most of the NS community respects my word, when I say something important, I MEANT IT AND IT WILL HAPPEN and/or IS FACT! So larry my old friend if you don't respect the value of my word... I don't really give crap one, sorry I have real people to worry about, and you sir are not one of them.

    FURTHER MORE

This topic should be locked due to the fact that the topic starter ASKED A QUESTION, the question is being answerd by people that he has a negitive histiory with, he is trying to not accept the answer given, THUS there is no room for growth or discussion on this topic, So please foum gods, lock this thread so I can get back to being annoyed by my other FAR MORE IMPRESSIVE and abrasive drama.

    THANKS

    SM5

The truth comes out. FFT failed to make it to the playoffs because they were on the bubble and lost due to having more forfeit wins than the team that made it. If you still doubt I did the right thing, know that Othell was consulted for a second oppinion and he agreed with me.

It's time to bury the hatchet on this, and let this thread run it's course. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'd like to point out one of the oldest (and officially active) clans still around today, with no website or channel (as that was the point) is [DMA].

Having existed since the very early days of 1.00, and those who were in it remember what it stands for. If you work it out, the lack of site/channel/competitive history becomes clear....

I don't believe the fact that FFT may have been around on launch day is being disputed. What <b>IS</b> being disputed is FFT was <b>NOT</b> the <b>ONLY</b> clan in existence at that time and certainly is <b>NOT</b> the oldest.

I think you're asking a question which has no solid answer. Hence the drama here.

There were many clans which were active on the forums and such before the 1.0 was even released. Do they count as active if they didn't compete right away?

If you want to know which clan has competed the longest, then please ask that question.

I can personally attest to having seen FFT members around forever. I think some of them even used to play on Horus before it became the PT server again.

Basically, you need to be more precise in your definition of what defines "oldest" or you're not going to get anywhere.

    Thanks,

As the co-leader of the new Critical eXtinction along with Scream(aka StryckNyne), I can say that indeed, it is back. It may only have 1 of people that were on the roster back in the day, but nonetheless, its back and its gonna kick some grass. Check us out on Sunday for our match against Squad 5 at 8:30PM EST. HLTV info will be given out shortly beforehand in our IRC chan.

Current roster: Abix, StryckNyne, ccnncc99, Lappie, Kisan, Fila, exile, AoW, PILL

Im afraid that join date on forums has no bearing either. Just because you joined the "official" forums doesnt mean youre a competitive NS player.

    Heh. You remain unclear.

What if the clans "senior member" wasn't a member of the clan at that time? What if he joined later? What if he was a member of a different clan at the time? What if the clan has been active in pubs and on the forums, but never competed?

If you want to know about competition, ask about it directly.

    <removed for being inflammatory>

Another edit: The reason I think you're really interested in competition is due to your comment about the clans you used to scrim against.

Being the oldest means you have more bragging rights on the internet.
