<div class="IPBDescription">Website and registered IRC channel req.</div> Having been around NS since it's inception on Halloween of 2002, I often wonder how many of the clans DS scrimmed way back then are still in existence. This thread will hopefully determine which clan/s are the oldest in existence.

For your clan to be added to this list you must:<ul><li>Provide your clan's website address which will show a minimum of 6 active players on the roster.</li><li>Do a "!info" on your registered IRC channel and show us your -ChanServ- Registered: date.</li><li>Provide what date (and who) your most senior member joined the NS Forums.</li><li>Please post your reply in a format similar to mine below.</li><li>The master list in this thread will be updated as I can verify information (in no particular order)</li></ul><b>Dominant Species</b>

Sadly quakenet doesn't have a feature that tells you when a channel was registered...

    but perhaps one of the oldest clans still going is;

    #the.mr.men (quakenet)
    www.themrmen.net

not sure when exactly the clan was formed, but it was pre 1.04 .... will talk to some guys and see if i can get a month/date!

Minor issues with the criteria you're asking for.

    1) Since when is having a website a pre-requisite for having a clan? Sure, it makes things a little easier to communicate from time to time when you're not already in game, but I've known quite a few effective clans in assorted games do just fine without a website.

    2) Since when is having an IRC channel a pre-requisite for having a clan? See above explanation for argument.

    3) You make the assumption that all clans that play in NS play exclusively in NS. This one particularly applies to my clan (AoF - Advocates of Fear - <a href='http://aofhq.homeip.net)' target='_blank'>http://aofhq.homeip.net)</a>. My clan has existed for a little over 11 years now, and though it is relatively small compared to some clans, it has stayed together and played together through a myriad selection of games over the years... dating all the way back to Doom 1 deathmatch on DWANGO, ranging genres from FPSs to RTSs to RPGs to Sports to Adventure, and ranging platforms from PCs, Consoles, and Handhelds. Only 2 of us play NS on any kind of regular basis, but I would still put forth that AoF maintains a presence in the NS community and therefore could be considered one of its clans.

    4) You make the assumption that clans exist for the sole purpose of competitive play. This explains the "6 active player" requirement you're wanting.I won't deny that competitive play is one of the primary reasons that MOST clans exist, but to assume it is the only reason is infantile and narrow-minded.

    5) You also do not qualify what constitutes an 'active' player. I have a member of AoF that is considered an active member, but hasn't played a video game with us in almost a year. While he most assuredly is not an active NS player, he still maintains active communication and communal participation with the clan.

There's plenty of other things I could point out, but I'll simply leave you with the suggestion that you specify exactly the type of list you want to compile so that you don't get posts from irreverent people in clans like mine bitching and about why they can't list their clan on your list. Although, I still fail to see why such a list is even needed / desired as it seems to be fairly useless information except as a recruiting advertisment space for active, competitive clans to bolster their ranks.

    1) This would be the most common means for verifying a roster of players.

    2) This is a very easy method of verifying how long a clan has been in existence.

    3) I made no such assumption and it's inconsequential if a clan plays other mods. This thread is trying to establish how long they've been involved in NS.

    4) Again, I made no such assumption. If you don't (or didn't) have 6 on your roster during the era I'm referring to you don't belong on this list. In other words, your clan simply wasn't active.

    5) You're splitting hairs now. If your roster shows 6 active players and the timeframe can be verified you will be added to the list.

If you don't understand why I created this thread or you indeed feel it's useless information, then you're certainly entitled to your oppinion, or better yet ignore it when you're viewing new posts.

RaB's been created in the end of year 1999, and got his NS subsection around 20th december 2002 (1.03). We're not on GameSurge though, and our website is hardly updated (and in french). Anyway since you won't be able to verify by yourself, there's no need to put us on the master thread. Just wanted to be proud of my long work <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

do you mean "team name" or team, because teams can go through many lineups, die out and get rebuilt, and in the end all that's left is the tag, not the players.

DS... I believe cX(Critical Extinction) had a few scrimmages way back then. The clan made a come back.. mostly new players of course.

Yes we scrimmed both Confederacy and cX back in the beginning.

Confederacy needs to post here ... cX isn't around anymore are they?

Wow A challenge to FFT's claim to be the oldest continuisly liveing NS clan. We Have played NS from day 1. Sadly none of us were big on irc and are channel has only been registered for 2 years and 8 weeks. Our website (that has lost its database so many times ive lost count) for about the same amount of time. We ran a dedicated NS server before we ever had irc or a webpage. However as far a proof goes there isnt much other then the fact I was glued to my computer from november through late december before I even started slowing down my game play. It was all night and every day, the same with Anticamp, Communistbassfish, and Ramza (early FFT Members and still playing btw) Surpriseinly it took Spacemoogle5 a little while, we had to work to lure him away from Counter Stike & DoD, but as you know he is a NS junkie now.

[FFT] has been around scince 2000, as a gameing clan, the move to NS totaly transformed us, and now we have freinds, and members around the globe. I am very proud of what our clan has brought to the community, we never were a top ranked gameing clan Those titles beloned to the Pandas HAM's Exigent's ER's of the world. With ER closeing its doors last year we have taken the claim to be the oldest active clan in NS. I have nothing but love for EGC, EC, ER and all the great clans of yester year.

Compile all the lists you want to, check all the dates you like. We will continue to be the Oldest active clan in NS.

Big respect to any clans out there who have survived the trials of NS. I hope you all keep playing and keeping the game I love alive for years to come.

Original Members of [FFT] were AntiCampV.1.0.0, Ramza, FatCommunistFish, Whitenight, Fangs, SpaceMoogle5, Charcoal, Worker8......

Members of [FFT] that still play NS on a regular basis are AntiCampV.1.0.0, Ramza, FatCommunistFish(now called Comerade-Trenkov), Whitenight, Fangs, SpaceMoogle5, Charcoal, Worker8......

    any questions?...

When NS came out and we were scrimming cX and BioG etc, I honestly don't remember FFT being around. But if you say they were born when NS came out, and I say we were born when NS came out, I don't think anybody can dispute either claim.

If one is unable to do a whois on the website to see when it was created (both FFT and DS had other websites prior to their existing ones) then the only proof I know of is when the IRC channel was registered.

That being said, let's get some more oldie clans on here ... Confederacy perhaps?

well... quite frankly, I don't remember any |ds|clanner from ... well... anywhere...

[FFT] was playing CS until the DAY ns was released... who are you-|ds|?... can't say I've seen you on a server recently or... any other time...

What I DO know, is that the greater majority of the day, you can find [FFT] playing ns... OR you can listen to [FFT]'s THE SHOW on NSRadio every friday...OR you can go to NSRadio and see the plethora of songs and skits [FFT] done with NS material.... OR you can download [FFT]'s music video...

OR........ you can go to an obscure website run by people I've never heard of to participate in a list that means nothing... what has |ds| contributed to the game?... Does the enacting of this list somehow validate you?... good grief.

Yea, thats the problem, most of the 1.0 clans no longer exist.
Aalso, I'm not sure there was even much of a clanning scene back in 1.0.
The biggest ones I can remember was -=STD=- and <Ht> (Condomless Brothel)

1 & 2) Regardless of how easy you can 'verify' something this does not mean clans did not exist or participate in NS prior to the acquisition or development of a page or channel... and that's only IF they've done either of those.

3 & 4) The magic number 6 that you pull out of thin air is the standard number of players required for competitive play. Since you state that a clan is only 'active' if/when they aquire 6 players six players then there is an underlying assumption that the clan is only eligible if they CAN play competitively. It's not a huge stretch of the imagination that lets you jump the gap that conciously or not, you implied that only competitive clans were eligible for your list. Furthermore, are you really looking for clans that were 'involved' in NS or clans that were 'active' (by your definition).

The only reason I nitpick is because your choice of words hasn't really conveyed your intent for compiling this list. I can almost guarantee you that AoF is the oldest clan that has participated in NS... we're 11+ years old and a number of our members have at some point during the existence of NS played regularly. However, we are far from the clan that has participated in NS from the earliest point in time... we didn't jump aboard NS until 1.3.

I think the latter is what you're going for, but it would be just as easy for my clan to trump all entries had we an IRC channel that dated back to our beginning... or any time before NS was released for that matter. While we don't have a member's list page up on our website right now I could easily fabricate one to qualify under the 6 man rule, and the timestamp on the ficticious IRC server would have been 11 years old... but like I said, we aren't the clan that started participating the earliest.

In essence, your credentials for trying to 'verify' whatever it is that you're looking for exactly is flawed.

    couple quick things:

not all clans use gamesurge, and or IRC, thus there is not always a channel to check against.

if Fangs word is not enough ask any of the original FFT members they were all here for the launch of NS, and are still here today. when you all live in the same city, and in a the case of many of us, in the same house, there is not much of a need for an IRC channel.

As far as not seeing FFT members playing NS, I would suggest you download the game and hop on a server sometime, since our roster is over 20 members from all over the world, you are bound to find some of them, and in the past when there were only a few NS servers to choose from you would have seen us playing(probably on the same team) .

(to larry to answer the question at hand)

simply put FFT has been stacking pubs since there have been pubs to stack, so if my word and my brothers word, and my best friends word are not enough... something is wrong, but you could try asking theiggsta, or Elven Theif, or Comprox or any of the Nano regulars if they remember Fangs or any of the FFT crew, you might get the conformation you are looking for.

    that is all

It depends on how you define "clan". If it is intended to mean a group of people <i>exclusively</i> banded together under a common name for a common purpose, then I propose the Old Fogies [OldF].

The Old Fogies aren't the oldest NS clan, but are definitely one of the oldest. They have been around for quite some time (since shortly after the release of NS I believe), although they were never a competitive bunch. It was and is just a bunch of people loving and playing NS and wearing a common tag. I emphasized "exclusive" in the previous paragraph because it wasn't and isn't a group that anyone could just join and slap a tag on. There was and is still the requirement to be accepted by members within the group (ie. recruitment). <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Website:
<a href='http://www.oldf.net' target='_blank'>http://www.oldf.net</a> is URL for the website/forums, with a memberlist showing as early as Feb. 4, 2003. The clan did exist prior to this though. A <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showforum=23&prune_day=100&sort_by=A-Z&sort_key=last_post&st=20' target='_blank'> recruitment post</a> by one of the founders, Niteowl, in these forums themselves shows a date of Nov. 7th, 2002. Sadly, the contents of this post has been pruned. Additionally, there has always been a dedicated OldF server to play on since late-November./early-December 2002 up until now.

    IRC:
Originally, a channel was created under GamesNet West named #clanoldfogies. However, that wasn't well used, and a new channel was created and registered under GameSurge named #oldfogies. The registration date is: -ChanServ- Registered: 2 years and 8 weeks ago, on March 10, 2003.

In essence, your credentials for trying to 'verify' whatever it is that you're looking for exactly is flawed. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
If your clan doesn't qualify, don't submit their name. If you want to debate, post a thread in the Discussion Forums.

not all clans use gamesurge, and or IRC, thus there is not always a channel to check against.

if Fangs word is not enough ask any of the original FFT members they were all here for the launch of NS, and are still here today. when you all live in the same city, and in a the case of many of us, in the same house, there is not much of a need for an IRC channel.

As far as not seeing FFT members playing NS, I would suggest you download the game and hop on a server sometime, since our roster is over 20 members from all over the world, you are bound to find some of them, and in the past when there were only a few NS servers to choose from you would have seen us playing(probably on the same team) .

(to larry to answer the question at hand)

simply put FFT has been stacking pubs since there have been pubs to stack, so if my word and my brothers word, and my best friends word are not enough... something is wrong, but you could try asking theiggsta, or Elven Theif, or Comprox or any of the Nano regulars if they remember Fangs or any of the FFT crew, you might get the conformation you are looking for.

    that is all

IRC is only one method of checking how long a clan's been around. I mentioned others.

I'm unsure what you're referring to as far as Fangs word. If it's that FFT is "the Oldest active clan in NS." yes, I would dispute that.

As far as not seeing FFT around, I was referring to the 1.0 days when it first came out, and cX, BioG, TE etc were all scrimmin. FFT was not in that circle if they existed then, or we'd have scrimmed them.

Yeah, I was going to say EGC..
    But then.. oh well.

Hmm, ReD? but they're not really in existence anymore.

And I do remember FFT from a long time ago, like.. right after 1.0, I hope I remember correctly.. but I have a vague impression. I remember seeing lots, and talking about them a few times.. cause I used to listen to old NSR too.

AUS (ANZAC Una Sept) was the 11th NS clan and the first australian NS clan. Originally forming at thge beginning of October 2002, AUS has been a constant presence (addmitedly not always competitively active) in the australian NS scene. Prioritising having a good time over trying to be the best, AUS has attracted (at last count) over 60 members since formation. Thanks to this attitude, AUS has been considered a welcome constant in the australian NS scene.
Numbering amoung our member list are 2 playtesters (Scythe and myself (we are also the co-leaders)) and at least a dozen constellation members.
Recently a CS:S division was formed and there is talk of a DOD:S division forming upon its release.

Our current home is #nsaus on gamesurge.
