Fades: A Basic Guide

saw someone asking, thought I'd oblige
The Fade attacks:

SLASH: Basic melee weapon, best used after softening up marines with acid rocket and blinking towards them. Also, traverse the map with this weapon selected, to prevent a surprise. Use this to destroy turrets and such, as it the most efficient.

ACID ROCKET: Your basic ranged weapon. This is best used to take down marines from a distance, one at a time. Use to destroy towers with hit and run attacks, best with lerk/fade support. Will take out regular marines in 3-4 hits.

BLINK: This will teleport you until the range expires, or you run into something. For best results, crouch+jump and use this in the air. Will not work reliably, but expends energy even if it doesn't. Use if you are desperate, if not, save your energy for acid rockets as you backpedal.

BILE BOMB: This three-hive, siege weapon, is best used for assaulting heavily-defended marine bases. Does not do any damage to structures, but can be heavily damaging to marine squads if it lands in their center.

Upgrades:
I usually opt for Adrenaline, Carapace, and Cloaking.

ADRENALINE: Allows for longer acid rocket bursts, and more blink attempts.

CARAPACE: Will let you go longer before retreating to DCs to heal. If your team is low on resources, you may opt for Redemption to save them.

CLOAKING: This can be good if the marines don't have HA yet, as you can ambush a full squad and get all/most of them before they realize what happened.
If the marines have HA, opt for Scent of Fear to kill off the most weakened marine first. If they have HA, Cloaking will not be of much use, as it takes several Slashes to down a HA.

TACTICS: The Fade is an assault evolution. Use him in concert with Lerks with Umbra, or other Fades. They can take out outlying turrets with the Acid Rocket, at which point it is fairly easy to rush in the knock down the turret factory with Slashes.

It does do damage to buildings if I rememeber correctly

It's bugged; it should do damage to structures, but it doesn't. I tested it on my LAN with 1.01 + drawdamage and 1.02, and after about 30 bilebombs, I hadn't taken down a single turret I was testing it on (or done any damage period).

actually its suppose to do double damage to structures i think.

i usually get regen and when i see anybody i fall back and hit them everytime they come past a corner. this may i get barley shot up and i get to heal up after every time i nukem with my rockets. i guess i play more as artilery class then an assault class.

    (MOST ANNOYING TACT!)

My favorite defense is regen, it allows you to stay out in the field for longer. With the 1.01 patch, fades regen at a fairly nice pace. You can engage HA-HMG guys at long ranges forever, practically, and regen back to full health once the fight's over. Adrenaline is nice too, the more acid rockets, the better. It's also helpful when you're slashing turrets.

From my experiances Bile Bombs doesnt seem to do any damage to buildings.

    Suxors.

No, BILE bombs don't do much damage to buildings. Well, some, depends on what you were eating for lunch. After all, you are bile bombing by running up and barfing on the target right?

Now, BIO BOMBS (say it with me, BIO BOMBS BIO BOMBS BIO BOMBS) are bugged right now, don't do much if any damage to structures. Great for taking out multiple marines, wiiiiide splash, decent damage.

No, the bile bomb does not currenty do damage to structures. It is supposed to do double damage ( 80, 40 versus marines,) but it is bugged and does no damage to structures. This makes a certain degree of sense, as unless the Fade's saliva is EXTREMELY acidic, then it would not do any damage to buildings. And, if this was the case, wouldn't the Fade's throat/stomach be burned off? Yes, I know, this is not a realism mod. Just a though

It's BILE BOMB. Read the manual.

    Good post on fades dude.

On more thing, If you hear marines coming your way just hide/wait around the corner (if you have cloaking hide in the middle of the room if you want ) and slash them to death. Alternatively, you can hide not too far from said corner and bile bomb them to death. Remember that you shouldn't always rush just because you are big and powerful. Surprise and stealth (like walking if marines are nearby) acount for a lot of marine deaths.

A surprised marine is a dead marine. Keep them frightened and cowering and you are doing great.

TheDamage, I believe he was referring to the fact that the Bile Bomb does no damage against structures. IE: an ANTI-biological bomb. Get it?

No, I think he thinks that the fade's 3-hive attack is called bio bomb and was joking and making fun of the people calling it bile bomb.

But it is BILE BOMB not bio bomb. RTFM! Its not there for nothing you know. (I personally read it 5 times. )

But yes, BILE BOMB will do 2x damage to buildings when its fixed.

    Other Fade evolution possibilities:

Scent of Fear: Nothing beats sending an Acid Rocket down the hall and seeing 3 or 4 orange blobs appear. (except seeing 3-4 death messages) It's like Parasite without the Skulks. Until their Comm heals them, these guys will be visible on hivesight to anybody else who chose SoF. Which is probably only you...

Adv. Hivesight: Ya, I don't know either. There's just not enough dark spaces in the maps.

Celerity: Blink is incredibly tough to use. Compensate for this by just plain moving faster. Close the distance, run away, avoid fire in melee combat. Marines fully expect you to have Adrenaline, so you can confuse them a bit with this.

Silence: You ever follow somebody for 50 ft. without them turning around, only to evicerate them when they stop? Another "Whaddaya mean he's not using Adrenaline?" option.

Regeneration: Sometimes you're sitting in a vent and there just aren't any nearby D chambers. Combine with Silence and Cloaking for the ultimate Hit-and-Run specialist.

Redemption: You will die eventually, save yourself some RP by simply disappearing. Especially with the long evolve time on the Fade, you can jump into combat, get some damage in, disappear and get back much faster.
