Can Wireless Cause Pain?

<div class="IPBDescription">Ow?</div> I just had a question, and I googled and didnt find much of anything.
I've been on my laptop for about a week now, since theres an internet restriction mistakingly placed on my desktop, and will not be fixed until my brother comes home Saturday night.

My laptop uses a belkin 802.11g card to connect to our network, but theres something I have to ask.

My mouse is about an inch away from the card, so my hand is normally right next to the card. After much mouse usage, I seem to find that the part of my hand that the card is next to (base of my thumb) gets kind of numb and has a bit of pain, much like arthiritis.

Does anyone know if wireless signals could cause this?

EDIT: Meant to be in off-topic, can I get a phase?

There's your problem right there... Its probably from just strain on your thumb or a weird way your holding your wrist or something and using the mouse for long periods of time. Radio waves are harmless as far as i know (they better be seeing as how you probably get thousands of them shot back and forth at you everyday from radio\tv\cellphones? etc.)

Unless it uses infared, even then i'm pretty sure that's harmless to unless your baking under a UV light for years.

Hmm, I dunno. I've used these cheap-oppy mouses for quite a while, and they seem to be fine.

Try adjusting the possition of the mouse. Try new ones each time untill you get one your comfortable with.

I doubt that wireless routers could cause pain. IE, my grandparents have a wireless router. They never complain. And there old. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

its not the router, its the card i meant. Just realized I didn't clarify that.

My card is about an inch or so from my hand.

Only proven effect of the electromagnetic field of that frequency would be a tiny warm-up of the tissues it passes through. And not that part is certain, as the field's frequency might not match the steady state motion of its consistence. So I doubt it's the wireless connection.

I had a radio once. I hope this helps.

The spectrum that wireless uses will not cause any harmful radiation. It is also well below acceptable levels that can cause harm.
You may possibly feel a slight warming up, but that would be even less then when you hold a cell phone to your head for half an hour, notice it can warm you up just a tad?
So no, it is not causing this problem.

Yes, Wireles Lan and Cellphones cause numb fingers and cancer and general stupidity, its true, Every day thousands of people die because of cellphones and other radio ray emitters and thoose bastards continue to produce ... er, spread this **** like i just did!!!

After HOURS of radio-rays you might get a little bit warm, THATS IT, there is no harm because radio waves have way less energy than visible light and "general heat", it might even heal.

heal? I'd like to see the proof behind that.

But yes there are a lot of people out there screaming that "cell phones are cooking your brain" yadayadayada. Same with microwaves, you might get a little warmer but unless your standing there for months on end non-stop i doubt there will be any adverse effects.

On a funny side note, remember when nukes were first being tested and the soldiers were walking underneath the mushroom cloud and around it not knowing about the radiation part yet? :-P (they sat in ditches and came out and walked around, it was like a training exercise during the cold war)

    awww memories

Its your mouse no doubt. You probably get cramps from using the mouse for long periods at a time. And for as far as the 802.11 waves go, I've stood in front of my Linksys Wireless-B router, touching the antenna and nothing has happened.

Since you're using a laptop can we assume you're using a tiny mini-mouse meant for traveling? Or are you using a regular sized one? I've never liked the mini mice and they certainly do get uncomfortable. If it is a mini one, that could be the cause. Also, since all you said was "laptop" we have no idea what position your hand/rist/mouse/mousepad are in. which may or may not be pinching a nerve causeing complete numbness. This is just my opinion on the subject. I am not a doctor blah blah blah

BBZBAAPEPPAZBAP... its like haxoring your thumb with wireless signals. <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif' /><!--endemo-->
