The Concept Of Losing

apparently it needs some explanation
Ok everyone, repeat after me:

"I can lose."

Yes, contrary to popular belief, you will not always win. The other team can be better than you. Other players can beat you in 1v1 combat.

And you know what?

They weren't cheating. They weren't exploiting an imbalance. They beat you fair and square, and theres no reason to come to these boards and scream your head off.

Also, there comes a point in every round where the loss of one team is essentially certain. There is no reason to say that an imbalance exists at these points:

1) skulks against a squad of HMG/GL/HA marines.
2) lmg marines against rampaging Onos.

So, please, realize that not every one of your losses is due to an imbalance.

I dunno the last few time I've lost (while commanding) is becuase I coulden't upgrade my turret factory, or my weapons, or well basically click any build in my base.

I had guys FEARING my Skulk attacks!

    They were like:

    "FACk poo! Stop that!"

    "I hate you poo.."

    "Where the Hell where you!?"

The teams where uneven (M7 vs A4)

An alien asks for the teams to be even, the response?

    "You have Poo."

    That made my day!

Of course I've been beaten to a pulp by other people too, cloaking Onos, fades whatever. It's funt o be the udnerdog

That's a bug, and yes, those commander and marine interface bugs are the last things that are holding the marines back besides skill.

I have a LOT of trouble with myself when I'm losing in this MOD! I don't know why! Usually, maybe it'S because on normal fps you don't care if u die... but here if u lose... u lose the MATCH... ergh.. I dunno how to say it

I actually have been winning recently, but my first game today with 1.02 had me getting whupped on throughout the match. It may just be the lower pings, but everybody on that marine team had spot-on aim, and their commander did a good job of taking hives and choke points. Eventually, we were pinned down to our single hive with grenades getting lobbed in fairly frequently, and I basically lost interest and left the game...a cardinal sin I suppose, but I can understand why people leave semi-disgusted after a few hours worth of playing equals a loss...I dunno, the stakes are a tad higher when there is such a time investment.

I understand where people come from when they leave a game, but it makes winning the game even more impossible when you don't have as many players as the victor does.

The only reason why I dont' mind people dropping out during a losing battle is that's how I usually get into an NS server

    Here's one.

If you are going to lose (and it happens to the best of us), try not to say things like "This map sucks" and then drop from the game. I've seen entire teams leave the server before the round was over just because their loss was imminent.

    Speaking of those commander bugs...

I think the Siege Cannon and Bile Bomb bugs weren't fixed

The problem is that the marine end game as as the losers can be fun. The alien end game as the winners CANT.

Simply because the aliens are pinned down to using skulks against HA HMG and GL.
If the final marine base gets attacked by aliens the marines usually have some resources left to invest in HMGs. Those HMGs arent LOST after the carrier dies. It gets dropped and inheritated to the next picker. Also marines have ALL their technology.

Aliens have nothing left after losing the second hive. Its the infamous 10 minutes of marine clean up time, for both sides boring and annoying.

I havent seen marines really flip out and being totally happy about having won the game. I see this on the alien side tho. Simply because aliens are easier to stop on their verge of winning than the marines.

I must confess, i see aliens win probably 80% of the time. But that doesnt mean marines shud be improved again and aliens degraded. The main aim in improving the game shud be balancing the chances of each side thoughout the game. That means aliens need a chance with even one hive.

The early game youre under alot of pressure and just wait for the midgame.
In the midgame its basically fun time. Fighting for ground and nozzles. Destroying each others approach spots/bases.
The end game its just an unstoppable march to the enemy base and easy killing time.

The problem is that sometimes/often the midgame which is the ACTUAL FUN PART is too short. Simply because one side doesnt have a chance for a comeback. Too fast its decided which side will win. There are VERY RARE U-turns in this mod. And exactly that is what i think needs to be balanced. Its not about the "races" actually.

I totall agree with that last post. The game is "over" way too early and (especially for aliens) you really stand no chance killing ANY OF the enemy in a losing situation (ie ha/hmg v skulk). I think aliens should never lose their evolving abilities when the hives go down simply because the last skulk hive will never be any fun.

rofl! so true, sounds like you've been talking to a bunch of cs'ers

    CS'ers - gah.

I played a game as Marine Com, and we lost. No biggie.

    BUT.

One guy had to hide in a vent with all sorts of ninja stuff, so the Marines wouldn't lose. Because of him, we didn't have enough time to play another game. Wewere all screaming at him to quit, and ended up even telling the aliens where he was.

Just lose. Geez, it is only a game. If you stop playing for fun, why are you playing?

The problem seems to be that either one side attacks and the other side turtles, or both sides turtle, meaning that the intense battles for key rooms and resource nodes never happen because there's no offense on either side. Therefore, the midgame technically doesn't exist in a situation like that, because the game is designed to force you to tip the balance in your own favour and stop the other guy from doing the same.

This is where the intensity comes from, the fight to take and retake hives, nodes, and key rooms, the attempts to stop the enemy from occupying somewhere you need to go, the constant struggle. Now, I haven't seen a single game yet (granted, I can't play much until I get a new computer, 4 FPS isn't conducive to aim etc.) where this constant struggle has taken place. I hope to see it soon, perhaps when we all get better at the game.

I dont mind losing(I do but you know what I mean) so much if both teams played well and it was a good fight but if the team I am on loses because of thier lack of teamwork and/or stupidity thats when I get angry. I also get tired of the "clean-up" action regardless of what side Im on. Ill leave a game even if Im on the winning side when playing is no longer fun and/or boring.
