<div class="IPBDescription">where?</div> Anyone know where I can rent a decent Server for Natural selection in the boston area. at this point I dont even care how much I just need to see a few places offer it since I cant find a single one that offers NS
I run an online gaming company based in the UK and after careful consideration or without making the cost stupid for the gamers, it is unlikely that I will be offering NS servers in the near future as they consume a lot more cpu than the likes of cs and tfc, although as a good point the bandwidth is lower.
I suspect that other gaming server providers are in the same situation, either charge a stupid amount for the servers or just dont offer them. I know that NS is a pushing hl to its limits but its a shame that it aint really practical to be able to offer it at the same price as any other mod.

It would be pretty expensive to rent a NS server. Probably $10-12 per player. What size server are you looking for? I can help you out and negotiate a price. If interested you may email me: admin@blackwidowservers.com

We have NS servers for rent. We have daily, weekly and monthly rentals. Email: zer0soul@hotmail.com for information.
The servers are on t3 connection and are priced per player basis. The server is phyiscally located in California, but we have customers that play from all over the U.S.
1oo / mo is not bad for a server. GOOD cs servers cost about that much. If they can guarantee a good server then its worth it. If the other guy who is offering 5o can give a good comp on good connection go for that then. But at 5o hes probably running like 4 or 5 server on that one machine. Be careful.
Anyone who says they cannot run a NS server for less than $13 a player is profiting too much. $130 for 10 players? wow! We can do 8 players for around $50. And we are NOT running 4 or 5 servers. When you have enough bandwidth that you got great prices on it, you can afford to put only a couple of servers together. This NS server would be on a T3 with only one other CS server of 8 players.
<!--QuoteBegin--s3rous+Nov 19 2002, 03:19 PM--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (s3rous @ Nov 19 2002, 03:19 PM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Anyone who says they cannot run a NS server for less than $13 a player is profiting too much. $130 for 10 players? wow!<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> We run nothing less than dual amd 1800+ systems with a gig of ram a piece, and all our server sit on an unmetered OC12. If I charged less than $13 a head I'd never be able to afford to upgrading systems to increase the quality of the service provided...
www.rackshack.net offers P4 2ghz 512mb ram for $129 a month. I got a P4 1.7 512mb ram for $99 a month. You can run a 16 player CS server and a 4 player NS server from it no problem. You control the box. You could run any server you wanted to off it.
I'm going to have to side with DrGiggles on this one as far as approximate pricing. I run the rental program for NuclearFallout (<a href='http://rentals.nuclearfallout.net' target='_blank'>http://rentals.nuclearfallout.net</a>). All our new servers are dual MP 2100+ with 1.5gb of RAM, and for us to continue to guarantee all servers to be the lowest possible ping, we'd have to order a new machine for every two NS server rentals we get. This just isn't viable at CS or DoD style pricing, or anything close to it. If we crammed a few more servers onto each box it might be, but we aren't prepared to sacrifice our reputation of quality. Any server provider worth its salt would say the same thing (and they all seem to).
I pay $55 a month for the 14 man pub..but right now provider has made it clear until the cpu usage goes down i am the only NS servers hes gonna run...but you could still check out www.orphus.net
Point taken.... I understand that you guys are running huge servers... And if you are having to pay for that server mostly from NS, then it would be expensive. You do not need a dual 1.6 or whatever to run NS. We have 1.2s that would be dedicated to the server. We have a t3 instead of an OC-3 or OC-12, maybe that is another reason that we can offer cheaper servers. I am not trying to pay for this server or the bandwidth with the rentals, that is the difference. We have extra servers that we own. We are also a non-profit organization. We only try to break even (which we hardly ever do) and pay for our own CS server... Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Personally I enjoy having shell access and complete control over a server I own... not just renting a game server.

I can do $10 per player for the server you want up to 24 players. I can do 32 players minus a few maps like bast and hera. That is at cost. I pray that they update this mod for lower cpu usage. Then the price will drop accordingly. If and when they update the mod to use less cpu then my price will drop accordingly. But, I cant go lower then $10 per player. This mod uses twice the cpu as UT2003. If you email me then I will explain my server configuration, data center, bandwidth and what server rental company is backing me in this. I wont post it all here seeing I will get bashed or start some war of words which I dont want to be involved with. Ping my server at 66.150.31.60
My servers are in Atlanta. I believe that deadlyservers.com just setup some servers in Chicago with XO Communications. I cant say how XO is as far as connection or hops , But email Dan at deadlyservers he might be able to help you. I also understand that artofwarcentral.com has servers in Chicago now. So you can email Falcon or Deadheart. I only know of gamegenie.com with servers in New York. I believe thats the closest you will get to Boston right now. If I knew of someone closer I would tell you. Oh , try xgamingservers.com they just colocated with a new data center. Sorry I cant remember right now where but on the East Coast.

Black Widow, no you pay $99 a month for a P4 1.7 with 512mb of ram, sitting on multiple OC type connections. Then you upload whatever mod you want to play and play it. In fact if you don't want to play NS you could setup 3 18 player CS servers. You get 400gb a month, which is plenty considering an 18 player CS server uses about 60gb a month when full 24/7.
If you would like to learn more, let me know.
As for renting them I think that I could put together a server for people not inclined to do it themselves. You could host two 14 player servers on one of the P4 2ghz boxes, which run $130 or so. Charge $70 per NS 14 player server and you are now at $5 a player slot.

Fairly easy to understand how that works.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> Interesting numbers. But, they are a little off. If you figure 8000bits per player, per second. For an 18 player server thats a monthly total of 373gb of traffic. You know? 144,000bits per second x 60seconds = 1 minute x 60 minutes x 24 hours x 30 days = 373gb's of travel. I am always looking to learn new things. And please let me know when you get the server from rackshack. I will rent both 14 player NS games from you for $5.00 per player if you can keep the server from crashing.
Your numbers are off. I and I am sure GoleX knows a number of people that rent rackshack servers that sell them as game servers. Not all of their servers are set up as web servers either. In fact you are given a linux box with redhat 7.2 or you can get one with ensim for webhosting, which you don't have to use.
Of course I am probably wrong along with all the other people that get servers at rackshack.net for the purpose of using them as a game server.
On a side note, please go to rackshack.net and read their forums. It appears that they seem to know what they are able to offer more then people that don't use them know.
I have a 24 player CS server that running at around 20 players 85% of the time. If I take the average bandwidth throughput per/sec and then strech it out over the month I get 163814400 kB or 156.2 GB of transfer per month give or take 10 gigs. Slightly more than 60...
