lol, just look at the server info before you connect. if you see anything like "i r bot" or "MARINE SUX!" for playernames, avoid the server if you dont like bots.
Reason for Bots in alot of cases is that everyone sets their filters in NS for "Only Server with players on them" therefore alot of servers do not get seen. Plus players do not apparently have the patience to sit on a server until players join, therefore bots are implemented until people join, when they do then you will see a full server and bots will disappear with the mapchange. It's been proven and tested. Yes there are servers which allocate alot of bots at one time (aka "bot servers") and that can be a bore sometimes, but a few bots are necessary in order to overcome the above as least for us.
as GiGaBiTe said check the "internet" servers list, and rember once you played on a server you can right click it and add it to your favorites list.
and therefor not have this problem again ;-)
also check people signatures on these forums, many of them have their server ip's in them <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
i dont have ips, but usually the NS Arms Lab and the I AM clan servers dont use bots, though they r rather large. Its not like it takes long to connect and find out, then just favoritize some.
Here's my plug... If you get a good ping to Mr|Server(FF), this is the best server!! Check my signature! If you are Canadian, you definitely want to play here, because the rest of Canada plays there too (at least Toronto!)...

Just to add to this...if you don't know the bot names, look at the time played. If you see a bunch of names with the EXACT same time played, they are bots!
