Flood Of New Players

once 3.0 final was released, is it just me or has there been a huge flood in new players? i know we were all one once, but it ruins alot of games i play when no one follows orders and on the aliens, either all go gorge or all go higher aliens. in other words, little teamwork and little knowledge of how to play. :\ forgive me for the river. is this why the nslearn community or whatever was created? another way to tell there are many new players is the increase in marine trainer bot servers and clans i've never seen before and give admin to every member resulting in abuse and noob admins. i find it hard to find other 1.04 vets anymore. don't get me wrong, you don't have to have played that long to be leet (ETD owns and the leader has only played since 3 beta) but why so many new players??? did unknown go on an advertising campaign when they released 3f or what??

This happens with every major release, and let me be clear, I'm quite in favor of it <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Just give them time.

New players = fresh blood = higher chance of intelligent players coming in.

Just bear with it for a while, the n00bs will stay in CO or stay away from NS. Those who really love the gameplay and play it well will stay.

    Give it time.

Don't put down players because they are new ive seen members from clans pick off new players that they see have alot of potential! I've seen some new players do as good as players who have been playing for a years or so in a matter of 2 - 4 hours of ns and co mixture!

BUT! u do get alot of new players who when u talk to them are like talking to a wall but thats only because ppl call them noobs and names for being new and not knowing anything about ns!

All im gonna say to ppl who flame noobs is you were once a noob and when u played ns for the 1st time i bet you did exactly the same things that these noobs are doing! I know i did when i 1st played ns a couple years ago!

Treat noobs like crap and they will make sure u lose the game tbh! I've seen it on many occasions!

I commed a game with a guy who was SERIOUSLY new, like he literally started the match not knowing how to build structures. I had to tell him to follow the flashy blue circles, and warn him when there were aliens incoming. He ended up making a couple kills and getting more res nodes then the whole rest of the team combined, just cause he acctually followed his damn orders!

    <3 newbies.

Nem0, has there been an actual statistical increase in the player base? And do you expect it will it be sustained?

n00b > waste of a slot, wants to learn never.
newbie > new person willing to learn and adapt.

pls, feed me newbies, teach them how to be pro.

And remember, that ramboing newbie (cause he/she is lost) might actually walk to your WP, and not phase.
With luck he will run into the fleeying fade (cause he flees away from the PGs your rines use) and kill it, any newbie knows to shoot the other team. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

i dont mind the newbies, in fact its funny most of the time, there so confused in their first game <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

gotta love it when a newbie joins an ns_ map after co and says "why cant i get any upgrades?"

... and without a steady incoming flow of new players, ns wouldn't be what it is today. Thanks to this, the game will develop faster, get more recognition, and this means more 1337 players, better matches and bigger tournaments in the end.

    Treat them well...

this is why an ingame tutorial WTH MUST BE INCLUDED for ns2, like before you even get to join any servers you have to go through a training session of marine and alien. it would be cool if they got somebodies voice for the marine and got the khaara voice to instruct you for the khaara half. it could be highly atmospheric and a great primer. with emphesis as going gorge and dropping chambers/nodes/hive when you are just learning the game.

my personal favorite is when you get people honestly trying to communicate with the commander in a co map.

dont you think i know this =/ the detail that you are either ignoring or do not know is that it will not be included in a official version of ns. so basically its pointless because new players will not come to the forums and install something like that by themselves.

Heh, I remember my first game, not too long ago, b5. It was on a black mesa map. Heh. I went lerk most of the time, then I tried a alien bot server. I got better there.

There are two kinds of newbs:

Learned: They have played plenty of Half-Life mods and know how to shoot straight. They have read up on the community manual.

Un-Learned: Have not read up on manual, have little to no experience in fpses.

I was one of the former.

Charlie's the guy with the exact figures. As far as I know, we went back from 90.000 to 100.000 individual players a month again. Not an exponential growth, but we didn't really expect that.

Newbies are vital for a mod imo. They make the community grow. And the cool thing is that they aren’t newbie’s for that long (as long as they’re willing to learn).

Lets try to not scare them off.

    i found this ammusing today:

Newbie: whats this white stuff coming from that hole?

Comm: It's a res node. Now get off it!

    "10 seconds later"

Newbie: Why is my screen red?

Comm: Because funnily enough you are some big cow's food and it is eating u!

    Newbie: Oh!

I get a kick out of people who ask such questions and get such enjoyment/fear/paranoia/etc. from the game. Chances are, the guys freaked out by the "wall-walkers" are the ones that will keep coming back.

Of course. Wall walkers frea the crap out of people... and to help spread that, go into a newbie server, get cloak, hide in a dark corner... wait for the newbie, and chuckle... hahaha...

Bot servers may be helpful for training aim and familiarization with the command console, but players who train on these servers generally have very poor concepts of strategy. (Turret Farms, Elec, and no Arms Lab untill 10:00 ftw)

Hah, honestly though there are more noobs, not newbies. I'd willingly teach a new player what to do, but I loathe the idiots who don't learn teamwork in a teamwork based game, or to follow orders because you have to.

And on another note, its the first time in a while since I've watched someone go around, killed half the marine team as skulk, then ask how to evolve, then evolve into fade outside marine start with no one going to kill the egger...
