It doesn't mean the popemobile will be gone necessarily. Just that there will be a different person riding in it.

This man has done a lot for our world, he has been a true communicator, he has tried to make the catholic faith more open (Look at all the media reports) As someone said, pope gregory opend the windows for the first time, Pope John Paul II Crawled out and talked to the masses.
He is a true icon of the 20 century, he has campaigned against so many evils (Injust Communist rule in poland which triggered the fall of the iron curtain) and has campaigned for peace many times (Telling both g W b and Tony that their war was based on immoral grounds and should not be carried out)
He has brought an understanding that all humans are different and they chose to have their own faiths and that we all serve the same lord, be it in our own different ways, this has started healing the rift between many Faiths inspiring us to see that we can worship together in different ways without need for one faith to overcome the other (ie no wars coz their muslim/jewish/anglican/catholic {can u say Irland and Israel for just some examples please?})
The way he has faced the last leg of his journey is extraordinary to me. He is indeed a true inspiration. He is dying a dignified, calmn death despite all his ailments to be 84(?) and have kidney/heart/urinary/breathing problems and live for 2 days through the darkest hours without passing away and being "in the presence of the lord" is quite something.
I do not see how any of you can not say this man being a man (and not some self pledged demi god) can not be worthy of at least some respect on his last hours of a truley inspiring and remarkable life. He dies with, for and in christ.
I myself am not religious (i was when i was little, i may be when i was older, but for now im not) The pope was a good man, he tried to make a difference and represent faith. He talked to the people. I only hope that if he is going to recover he recovers quickly, and if not then i atleast hope he is in as little pain as possible. Even though terminally ill he still tried to come to the window to do a speach? Can't swear that i'd do that given the same situation. I do respect the pope and it's sad to see such a good man in such a bad situation.
He also promoted bigotry and intolerance, and in order to 'uphold' the morality of the Catholic church, he chose to promote anti-homosexual propaganda, meddling in the private affairs of American citizens as well as block sex education and the availability of contraceptives. Who knows how many people have had unwanted children or been infected by STDs, life-threatening or not, because of the ignorance he spewed? Who knows how much violence has taken place by the ignorant because of his words?

If you look at the history of catholicism you see its not a very nice one to people and that it has chnaged a lot, but you cant expect it to change to how everyone wants it and be fine and dandy.
