<div class="IPBDescription">over lan</div> Ok, here is the story. In this house there are 5 people with 5 computers, on a LAN, each in different rooms. We play counterstrike, NS, UT, ect, all games with in game voice. Recently we have all started playing Warcraft 3, specifically DOTA. We want to be able to talk to each other somehow.

I've used ventrilo and teamspeak in the past, but have no idea how/if it would be possible to set up a set up a server for out use, and we don’t want to have to rent one.

So, if anyone knows how we could set it up so we cant talk to each other in a fashion similar to using ventrilo, teamspeak, ect without having to rent a server, I would appreciate it.

    Just put in the IP of whichever computer is running the server to connect to it (same as connecting to anything else on a network <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

    Ok your right, got confused because it game me 3 ips when I started the server, I was just using the wrong one.

    heh thats fine, thanks for the offer though. Also, didnt realize that peaople not on our lan can connect to it as well, this was alot easier and better than I thought it would be.

    btw, is there a way I can minimize the server's command prompt to the systray rahter than it cluttering up the bar?

    um, lol, doesnt going to a LAN then going to DIFFERENT rooms kinda defeat one of the main purposes of LAN parties? You have LAN so you can kill your buddy and yell "OMG! I P0WNZ0RED YO!" or while playing coop scream "OMG!! HES ON ME! GET HIM! IEIEEIEIEEEEEEEEE!!!!".

    "LAN" does not necessarily mean "LAN party". How do you know this situation isn't simply a house with five networked computers?

    Uhh ventrilo would be the easiest...

    Download the Ventrilo server for Windows, edit the config file and change the admin and servername setting

    start the server on PC with ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

    install windows ventrilo CLIENT on all PC's

    setup those clients to connect to the server PC

    about that Zaggy, do you just let it sit in the taskbar? I'm a little bit OCD, and would really like to know if there is a way I can move to the sys tray or even just have it run in the background.

    you could always just buy some intercoms... they're not exactly expensive and you don't even need your PC for them to work so you can still chat when someone's on a console :p

    We just used ye olde fashioned 'shout really loud' or if something was particularly exciting the technology would go up a notch and there'd be liberal use of 'run through to the other rooms squealing at the awesomeness' :3

    Heh, we actauly considered intercoms of some kind, but wrote them off as too expensive, especaily since we all allready had out computers in place. Then again, there is now alot of shouting across the place of "Hey Tom, Get on vent dude!"
