Pah. Nightmare isn't nearly as scary as.... Xianghua.

I hate Xianghua. I can't fight with her worth ****, I can't work out the timing of her moves to block\GI them fighting against her, and her taunts annoy the hell out of me.

Anyway, most fun in SCII is Kilik vs Kilik armed with bamboo staves with infinite health on the ice arena. *thwop* *thwop* *thwop* WAAAAAaaaaah....

All I remember is how I was unbeatable as Sophitia (and subsequently Lizardman - though he's a bit slower) in the Dreamcast version.

    Y+B, X, Y; UP Y-B slide.

...I think there was also some really easy backwards-fowards flip that was good too, and it was just UP-Y or something. Plus there's an easy unblockable attack with ...Gaia stab or something. Anyway, Jet Stream Rush owns you .

Note that UltimaGecko hasn't played Soul Calibur since 2000...
(and I'd still own you with Sophitia, pffft no insane nunchaku or bo staff [although it's cool too) will stop me). Survival mode (possibly a bit off): 70 with Nightmare (sword-poke for the win), 57 with Sophitia.

...Plus in the intro version you could set it so Lizardman was the guy sitting out in the field who brushes his 'hair' back, always funny.

Anyway, Soul Calibur is the only fighter I've ever purchased, and subsequently, the only one worth playing. Story mode at least has the minimal sense of progression with minor events and cool fight additions. SC3 PS2 only = no purchase for me...even though I didn't buy the second one either...and it's like $20 now.

    Sword poke owns you.

I mean, I just poked people until they fell over, then you poke them again when they get up (or drop kick them if you're daring); if they decided to stay laying down you do the up-down-up slash which knocks them into the air...so you can poke them again.

...until they fall of the edge and you win.

70 kills in survival = woot for the sword poke.

think my survival record was 105. My usual playgroup for soulcalibur have won tournaments and I can usually beat them... need I say more? :3

If you can't parry over 50% of the attacks in the game you're no challenge

Waldo and Nightmare FTW. My friends and I play a lot (Gamecube version), one of 'em's a Link, one's a Maxi/Talim, and one's a Mitsurugi. The only one I have trouble with is the Link, but he's weak against my Voldo >:D
Maxi should be the hardest one since he's hard to predict, but the player's not that good =\
The Link's really good at guard impacting, too, so we used to get into situations where we'd just guard impact eachother for like, a minute. Until we figured out to mix up the timing a little.

Anyway, yeah, Soul Calibur is definentley one of the most awesome fighting games ever. And I knew I'd need my PS2 for something, good thing I didn't sell it yet :D

We've got an astaroth, cervantes, mitsurugi, ivy, maxi and kilik :3

Alas I'm a nightmare player; I can play other chars but for some reason I find the man with the big sword the easiest to play. I don't like what they've done to some of his moves for SCII but he's still lethal ^^

I half wonder how good you guys are with mr Knight... I've had a few 'nightmare' challengers who've heard I was good and so far they've proven rather dissapointing :s
The poke works great against AI but any seasoned player will tear you apart if you try using it; it's easy to dodge and has a huge opening just after the move where they can do pretty much anything they want. It's also embarrassingly easy to parry :p

Voldo is my major weakness; I grab a LOT (often right through people's moves :D ) but voldo counts as being ducked most of the time so he causes me lots of problems o.O

Only problem I had with my Xbox was the triggers on the controller wouldn't trigger unless I pushed them most of the way down. That and the Joysticks threw off my timing so much. I ended up using the D-pad I bet the PS2 was better with the smaller triggers. Luckly I have both the XBox and PS2, so exclusive is all right with me Ivy ftw

I don't really play against the AI, so I wasn't even aware the poke move was such an effective tactic against it :X
I'm not really the Nightmare king, but using him's a lot of fun as he can be very unpredictable thanks to his different stances. That and his sword is really cool.

And Voldo's greatest strength is definentley his movement, especially with things like his Caliostro Rush (quarter circle down-forward) that are useful for evading and can be chained to other nice moves like that fancy jumpy slicy thing where he does a front flip and hits three times.

    Kilik & Talim - Button Bashers Unite!™

C'mon, really.... I mean, at least Talim feels like a bit of talent.... but Kilik?!?!

    - Shockwave

(PS. If I don't play Ivy, it's Xianghua all the way, frankly.)

Bah, I'm still going with the good ol' DC version . Kilik actually took a bit of skill to use, Maxi was the 'I'm going to see what this button does' where you'd end up doing some unlimited, never ending combo with his nunchaku.

The DC version is the only fighting game I've bothered memorizing combos for (and basically only for Sophitia); I heard they're the same for SC2, so maybe I'd just need to unlock her and she'd play the same or something.

Ditto, but I know why: you didn't have to memorize 50,000 moves. It was:
    Default attack.
Holdng the joystick in any direction.
Tapping the joystick in any direction.
    Special moves.
    Block.

smash bros is all the fun of a fighting game combines with the giggles of a platform game :D
sorta like a side-scrolling beatemup on crack ^^

Couldn't get my flatmates to really play it much because they didn't consider it 'serious enough' and they were getting their rear handed to them by my zelda playstyle :p

Though I love SMB and Soul Calibur III I get a good giggle on ye olde 2D fighters like Guilty Gear and capcom vs SNK... my flatmates totally beat me on those games but they're loads of fun all the same ^^

Eww... they're using Sheik. Sheik is so top tier it isn't even funny. But I'm going to watch the videos with Falco or Marth, those are who I use.

I just watched the nastiest DK I've ever seen in my life, along with the most redundant Falco I've ever seen in my life. Pretty fun.
