Initial Regen

2 things that concern me
I think the initial regen is a very good idea, but there are a few things I am not happy with it.

(I used the search engine didnt find anything)

If you knifed a skulk w/o carapace, it would only take 3 hits in beta 5.

In final 3.0, the initial regen makes it 4. I mean 4 knife slashes is too much to kill a skulk. By the time you hit the skulk twice with your knife, it gains 1 hitpoint, and ends up having 1 hitpoint after 3 slashes.

With the initial regen, a level 0 lmg kills a skulk in 10 shots, not 9 because of intial regen. (If you don't kill it instantly).

I dont know if these things were done on purpose or not, but maybe fixing initial regen so that it doesn't work when you are being attacked makes it more fair to a beginning game marine.

It always takes 10 bullets by the way, the only way to kill it instantly is to make sure its only hit once - ie hidamage 1 or a shotgun. Any other method will involve 1 tick of innate regen.

Which is why I laugh in the face of Talesin stating it takes the exact same amount of bullets. It does not, since until 2:30 approximately (when in a competitive setup you have W1) you're dealing with more than 10% tougher Skulks. But I couldn't be bothered to mention it at the time, seeing as how all threads pertaining to it were locked.

Perhaps a small cooldown similar to cloaking wouldn't harm anything. Besides, if a marine lands 3 knifes on you...you deserve to die.

Maybe the cooldown could be 1-2 seconds of not being damaged?

Innate regen makes Weapons1 useful for something other than a pre-req for Weapons2. Dealing an extra 1 damage per bullet negates the innate regeneration for the Skulk.

xtcmen; the knife isn't meant to be used as a weapon to actually attack skulks with, but rather a last resort when you're out of ammo, or an ammo-saving aid for taking down buildings.

    quoted for extreme truth.

you shouldnt be able to knife skulks from full health anyway you was likely not meant mean, but still... Snip.

now about the extra bullet thing, there have been times when ive escaped as lerk with 1 hp and then thanked the innate regeneration gods. i dont mind it taking an extra bullet to kill a skulklet.

What you describe is more of a proof of something working than anything in my opinion. Vanilla skulk frailty has been bemoaned for a long time. We did something about it. I don't see the problem, honestly.

Your just unhappy that you had to waste 1 more bullet...which really doesn't matter due to the fact of the rof for the lmg...hold down for 1 second and bam 1/5 of your clip is gone :O

It's more than that SinSpawn. Do you think letting the skulk take 3 more bullets would make little/no difference at all? Because in reality, it would make a huge difference.

well, in reality, there are no aliens, there are no (practical) jetpacks, there are no deepspace outposts

reality doesnt matter, it was a balance issue

THATS WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO THINK!!!

    *cough*

But... having played NS I really haven't noticed any difference due to the extra bullet to kill skulks... I'm still getting ambush in the proper places and getting munched..

in fact I would blame alot of my deaths on carelessness and out of practice pistol clicking rather than innate regen.

"in reality" is an idiom; it means "actually".

In reality, NS is a game, and in this game, letting the skulk absorb any more bullets makes a difference.
