Particle System In Official Release Of Ns

<div class="IPBDescription">F4 and F7 don't work, anyone else?</div> Hello

I can't seem to edit my particle system from within NS anymore, like when we used to press F4 in the game and the menus would come up. Now this small message comes down, and tells me to press F7, but this button doesn't load the particle system menu...

Do I have to bind editps to a key myself? Or is this editing option now unavailable?

    I haven't tried the in-game editor in this release, but it may still be necessary to join team 1 (marines) before the particle editor can be accessed.

    And yes, you'll need to bind the commands yourself. F4 is now bound to the return to RR command.

    Hmmm, I only actually tried it when in team 1, so in fact, it probably works when I haven't joined a team at all. I'll try this and let you know. Thanks for the advice <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    i'm trying to edit a ps in the ready room, but i can't get it to bring the ps menu up. can we change the ps menu to F8 or something?.. or some other key. if we can, what's the bind line.

    The console bind is 'toggleeditps'
  • BelgarionBelgarion Join Date: 2002-07-19 Member: 973Members
    ok. did that. i bound toggleeditps to "p" ( bind p toggleeditps ). it sorta works.. the cursor comes up, but there aren't any bars, even when i've entered 'editps particle' in the console, and when i've joined team1 it does the same. is there something i'm missing here?

    I'm just going to copy the bsp file into the nstr2 (tech release) folder and edit the particle system in that.

    so devs, can we get an answer on this?

    Well, it seems we cannot. I apologise for bringing up this thread, six days old as it is but I am also having trouble acessing the particle system edit stuff. And I've done some searching, so if there's a simple fix to this then... I'd welcome it.

    I was using the NS particle guide. I followed the instructions but already there was a problem because apprently I should have been able to see a white circle of the one sprite, but instead I saw nothing. Then I attempted to type in editps test (as instructed) but it did very little. So then I typed 'toggleeditps' and got this:
    <img src='http://www.parkway-capital.com/steve/pstestroom.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>
    When I removed the console, those bars dissappeared but the mouse stayed. I then tryed some random combinations of 'editps test' and 'toggleeditps' and 'mashingmykeyboard'. All to no avail.
    So, much like a 'teh n00beh' I am asking for help. How can I get to fiddle with my particle system, and get it operational as it should be.
    Cheers.

    Now I can see the sprite, but I still don't have bars to... edit stuff with. If I have to get nstr2 then where is it now? Also, why doesn't anyone seem to see this thread at all?

    I just use NSTR2 for my particles. Works fine. If you want ill post a screenshot or two.

    I Don't have NSTR2 (or 1)
  • Zer0BurNZer0BurN Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4633Members
    Only reason why i got NSTR2 is cause the particle system wasn't working in NS. If you know nothing about PS goto <a href='http://pstutorial.tripod.com' target='_blank'>http://pstutorial.tripod.com</a>. It helps.
  • SamRSamR Join Date: 2002-09-30 Member: 1382Members
    That's what I do. Simply copy the bsp file into the maps directory in the tech release folders, and load that. PS heaven!
  • jaMzjaMz Join Date: 2002-11-10 Member: 7996Members
    where do you get NSTR2?? i've only got 1! and i forgot where i got it already... hihihi!

    the toggleeditps doesn't work for me in NS or NSTR (1), i still get no cursor or no bars or nothing at all even if i join a team, or stay neutral (like in the readyroom)..

    help in this please! it'l be really great if i was able to edit my PS ingame.. i've read the ps guide and ps tutorial and the ingame thingy still doesn't work!!!

    Hmmm, it's no longer posted on the downloads page. I have no idea where you could get it otherwise. You could try a search on File Planet and see if it comes up. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Yeah. I would have clearly got nstr2 by now because I know it will get my ps editing working, but I new it was removed from the downloads. Somebody needs to host that thing. Heck I will if I can find it.

    while the nstr2 is a temporary fix, we will need some sort of real fix eventually. is this likely to take a while?

    I had I feeling I might have spoke too soon. Now NSTR2 crashes when I try to run a map with ps effects in. I think it is ps effects because my ps testroom is simple but when the sprites show up it freezes with no message. Ctrl+alt+del reveals 'assertion failed'. With the bounce example map it freezes before the console panns up. that map if I remember is heavy with ps effects. I'm just going to look see if any of the notation mentions this.

    Well the 'sample' map works well. It has five ps effects which I have reduce to smithereens in my editing <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> Let's see if I can get this to work with my own maps...

    hmm I can't SEE my particle effects they just don't seem to emmit, I'll have to read and check out the example maps.

    hmmm, this sounds like a <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=4&t=10104' target='_blank'>Topic</a> I posted last week <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    chubbysteve: i know what you are talking about man! it's when the map works fine at first, but then when i 'mouse look' towards the ps i made, the game crashes, with the error message blah blah blah and that i should email this problem to the NS team.

    here's what i did to fix it up, it seems that when ever i make my OWN ps system, (i make the invis block myself, then make it a func_wall then make an entity brush called env_particle) the map always crashes... so i just copied the fun_wall brush and it's env_particle from nstr's particletest2.rmf.. i edit it from there, then *boom* it worked! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    hope that helped <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I'll just see if I can understand that, and then see if it works.
    Rght now I'm at the point where ps effects work in nstr2, but not the ones I have setup. I just plain old can't see them. It's **obscenity** me off no end because in the map I have made where they are visible, it still randomly crashes.

    I'll do some fiddling, and post what I've done (if any sucess comes of it) for others.

    okay wait your telling me that I need to have a func_wall entity to make a particle system too??? ACK I need to read the ps guide! <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
  • jaMzjaMz Join Date: 2002-11-10 Member: 7996Members
    yea you'll have to attach a func_wall to the env_particle, the func_wall would be the area where the particles would generate from <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    read the tutorials <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
