2 wads for your spraying pleasure
Well I just learned to make custom sprays, thanks to Verthandi in this this thread. The first one is a conversion of kyliegirl's "skulk anatomy" painting I found on Deviantart. The second one is Butters in a towel. Screenies:

sorry if i'm going to offend you or anything.
as most people here probably know how to do stuff like this, and can easily do it, i suggest that you do not post something like this unless it is innovative and actually has a reason for people wanting to use it (like that egg spray )
anyway use your new skills to make more custom sprays

It wasnt a nice thing to say, but hes right...

If you could make me something that matches my name, Black Viper, ive already got a Dodge Viper symbol, and a snake, lets see what you can come up with.

    Surreal.

Being bacteriological life, I rather believed the Kharaa lacked bones and musculature. Hence why they do not gib.

If they didn't have bones and musculature wouldn't they just flop around like an amoeba? Bacteria can produce those parts.

Plants dont have bones, do they flop?

    plant cells != animal cells.

animal cells can artculate on bones, plant cells cannot; they snap.

the Kharaa though bacterial seem to obviously have bones. bacteria we know of are simple single celled organism, that flop around fluidly; the kharaa obviously dont and therefore must have some bone structure of some kind.

Aliens are not bacteria, their carbon lifeforms WITH bacteria growing on them. Duh.

Plants dont flop about, they're fairly rigid.

Second, plants which move, such as the mimosa and venus flytrap, do so without muscle OR bone.

Somehow I think there's a definite difference between osmosis and torsion making a venus fly trap close, and a 1+ ton rhino alien thing running around on 4 legs.

Not necessarily, you could have it all work by transferral of fluids.

I'm imagining something closer to a hydrostatic network allowing movement, possibly with cells less plantlike but instead more fungoid - in that they have a cell wall composed of cellulose and chitin.

Reinforcing the chitin, or adding more silicates/carbonates would of course result in Carapace, and so on.

actually the skulk anatomy was made by kyliegirl some time ago, pretty cool, bmdavll simply converted it to a spray...
well it's not a bad job anyway.

lol this reminds of when i first released the skulk anatomy pic.. i just got 5 or so pages of everyones theorys etc. all disrespecting the fact it was the artists imagination which causes such and image and had NOTHING to do wether it waws right or wrong..

I'm not disrespecting imagination, just saying its unrealistic in terms of the ns universe.

Ergo, why not just take a picture of some minced beef, then get a skulk silhouette and cut round it. WOO SKULK ANATOMY. Or do it all yellow and say it has NO internal anatomy. Imagination, ha.

Anyway the Kharaa are multi-functonal, de-centralised, metamorphic, orga-quantum based lifeforms, they aren't mammals, birds, fish, plants or fungus - theyr'e something else

    From New Scientist:
A single microbe does not have much to say for itself, but put a lot of them together and it is a different story, says Mark Buchanan

IN A small dish in a lab at the University of Chicago, millions of bacteria are deliberating among themselves. For hours there is no activity then suddenly, having taken a vote and come to a decision, the bacteria all light up, filling their world with a soft blue glow. Nearby, other bacteria are navigating as a pack. In response to unseen signals, individual bacteria have grown tendrils and gathered together, forming a raft that glides easily over the solid surface

Yeah, the "mammal" bit probably stems from the concept art rule of "make aliens look vaguely mammal."

Um wasn't this topic about his sprays? anyway read the NS introduction it tells you what the Karaa are somewhere in there. Nice sprays man.

Yes, your sprays are awesome, not that random resized crap i know from somebody else *caugh*

btw... There are lifeforms that 'walk' through pumping liquids through their body: Squids!
There are at least 2 kinds of squids, that wring 6 legs around their body to look meaner and walk on the remaining 2 tentacles on the ground away...

So it would work that the Kharaa are completely composed of bacteria, as it can slurp up and spit out water...

Notice that squids cannot move outside of water. It takes quite a bit of internal engineering in order to make a skeletal system capable of movement on land. Sure a tree's bark is solid enough to form into a 1-ton spacecow, but try adding joints and movement to that structure. Impossible. The kharaa (if they existed) could not solely be sacs of fungus. The fungus would need to join together into colonies of some kind resembling muscles (organs made out of fungus) in order to ,move like they do. Add some artificial coloring, and voila, Kyliegirl's anatomy sketch could be pretty close to the "real thing".

Well chitin is actually pretty flexible until it tans, secondly the Kharaa dont' gib (and before anyone mentions "no gore", iirc alien gibs are bright yellow, which bypasses the legalities of video gore entirely. Its why german carmageddon has zombies instead of humans - its ok to gib aliens/undead).
