I Need A Website Built
<div class="IPBDescription">www.ecstasisband.com</div> As some of you fine fellow forumites know, I'm a music producer, and have all of my projects, and some of my collaborations and friend's music, currently hosted on my website www.ecstasisband.com.
To put it bluntly, the website looks like complete and total crap. Therefore, I need a new one built that looks far simpler and far more professional. A more "blog-like" website, if you will. I will need php scripts to be coded to allow easy posting of news and updates (including pictures, videos, and music) on the various pages. The web builder will need good knowledge of flash, CSS, and XHTML. I do not want an outlandish site. I want a website that has subtle bits of awesomeness scattered about. The site needs to have php scripts for the database that will connect forums to different access levels of the website (there will be more than one admin).
At this time, I am in a fairly strict financial position, given that I have no roommate yet for my place so I'm fronting the $900 rent each month, so payment will be small, if anything at all. However, if my financial situation improves I will be willing to pay the lucky lad who gets chosen to build one up to around $50, maybe more maybe less. It all depends on the money.
I have either 2 or 5 gigs of storage (I don't remember offhand) and 100 gigs of monthly bandwidth, so there's plenty of flexibility for the imagination of the guy who takes it up.
Thanks guys,
NEX

it might take a while (I'm still learning PHP and MySQL, so I can make a post updating system, but I'll have to figure certain bits out). Do you have MySQL available on your web host?
And also, I refuse to make a website with Flash in it.
My problem is that I'm not a great designer, but I'll try my best. If it's all done with CSS anyway, someone else will be able to give that side a shot.
Any photos or logos of the band?
And thank you for your inquiry, but flash will be a necessary part of the website. I'd be looking at a timetable of around 1-1.5 months for the entire php scripting and database portion to be finished, as well as an uploadable version of the website. I will be helping with the graphic side a little bit, as I have some experience in photoshop. However, I know that many people can easily blow me away, so if the web designer is really good, I'll just let him make logos and I'll approve/disapprove.
I will be gone most of today, but I will check and reply to anyone who is PMing me when I have time later on tonight.
Less of a genius, more of a back-stabbing tossrat.
Agreed.
The big problem with flash is that it's not scalable.
Although you can pigeon-hole yourself into a certain resolution pretty easy with HTML, too, at least with HTML you can make a scalable site.
What I mean is that the use can and SHOULD be able to view your site at whatever resolution and text size he or she wants. From 640x480 to 1600x1200 or higher. The site needs, especially a professional one, to be able to scale to such changes.
Now, flash banners and things. Or maybe a flash table of contents might be okay in moderation.

That's the point.
On the Flash thing, the only thing with Flash that REALLY bugs me is when a site is entirely based around it. As Rob said, it's fine in moderation.
[EDIT]If you really need it, I can get Flash to work with the type of site I recommend.[/EDIT]
(Not to mention a large fraction of websites don't embed their flash files properly allowing them to be accessed by all browsers. gg dreamweaver/frontpage etc....)
I'll make a decision in the next day or so about who I want to build me a great website, so keep the ideas, suggestions, and offers coming my way.
While I would agree, I would also have to say that flash can become too consuming. One thing that I have see a problem with flash is content. If you want that "flash website" awe, then leave the menus and site logo in flash. Content should be in scalable HTML/CSS <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Having a mix allows everyone to read your article/posts w/o having a bias to a certian group.
Or, have parts of the site in flash that would enhance the users experience, but are totally unnessecary to retrieving the digital-music.

Precisely my sentiments.
