The short answer is "No."
The longer answer is "Why would you want us to work on making 2.01 compatible with steam, when we're better off putting that time/effort into making 3.1 and/or NS:Source?"

Short version:
If he's running a legal internet cafe, Valve will provide him with all the support he needs to get Steam working properly on his setup. This means an internet cafe license, rather than just buying a few copies and tossing them on machines.
2.01 works on Steam with a few graphical glitches after aliasing a certain command. Unfortunately, as noted, 2.01 is no longer supported, given the release of 3.0 Final.
My suggestion would be that your friend call Valve's net-cafe support line if he is having problems with Steam, and to use NSv3.0, as it is the only supported (if that word even applies to a free mod) version now.

Luckily, the NS team as a whole isn't a democracy to be run, so even if there were (a fact I doubt, and doesn't need proving to me as I don't find myself caring, either) we (or they, if you want to be picky about who is doing what) don't have to do it.
Shame really.

Why don't you just hunt down the 2.01 beta for steam. It would be better than begging the mods for something that won't happen. And honestly, what purpose would 2.01 on steam serve? Are you planning on doing a LAN party or do you own an internet cafe? If we could have a background reason for this it might make more sense as to why you want this. Unless you have already posted your reason, in which case ignore the part of this post asking for a reason.

i still have the 2.0 steam beta patch on my computer if you're interested in it... you can pm me or im me on aim. i won't be around for most of the weekend but i'll get to it when i come back.
the only thing that sucks about playing 2.01 on steam is that you cant have 2.x and 3.0 on the same steam installation, unless you use different accounts or keep changing the folder names. seems that ns dont like being in any other folder name than "ns" or it crashes with a divide by zero error.

You must rename NS 3.0 or NS 2.0 (every time you want to play either one) directories to "ns". No, I do not support it. Yet I do play around with it every once in a while.
