The short answer is "No."

The longer answer is "Why would you want us to work on making 2.01 compatible with steam, when we're better off putting that time/effort into making 3.1 and/or NS:Source?"

I am very proud to be the new community lead, and I do represent the overall NS team, but a dev team member I am not. I have no more say in the game's design than anyone else on the playtesting team, and despite my position there are forum sections even I can't see.

Still, my previous post covers the dev team's stance on previous versions of NS. No need to support them in Steam.

all, and i mean ALL old versions of ns work on steam. some of them have graphical glitches, but nevertheless they work.

so stop pestering the developers and let them get on with their developing.

    Short version:

If he's running a legal internet cafe, Valve will provide him with all the support he needs to get Steam working properly on his setup. This means an internet cafe license, rather than just buying a few copies and tossing them on machines.

2.01 works on Steam with a few graphical glitches after aliasing a certain command. Unfortunately, as noted, 2.01 is no longer supported, given the release of 3.0 Final.

My suggestion would be that your friend call Valve's net-cafe support line if he is having problems with Steam, and to use NSv3.0, as it is the only supported (if that word even applies to a free mod) version now.

    That's fine & dandy.

Luckily, the NS team as a whole isn't a democracy to be run, so even if there were (a fact I doubt, and doesn't need proving to me as I don't find myself caring, either) we (or they, if you want to be picky about who is doing what) don't have to do it.

    Shame really.

Why don't you just hunt down the 2.01 beta for steam. It would be better than begging the mods for something that won't happen. And honestly, what purpose would 2.01 on steam serve? Are you planning on doing a LAN party or do you own an internet cafe? If we could have a background reason for this it might make more sense as to why you want this. Unless you have already posted your reason, in which case ignore the part of this post asking for a reason.

    er?

Just search the internet for "Natural Selection 2.0" and "Natural Selection 2.0 Steam" and "Natural Selection 2.01 Patch"

There are plenty of places to download it

*EDIT* - Just thought u may mean a 2.01 client patch, the "official" 2.01 patch is just serverside, but 2.0 is playable on steam, the only graphical errors are with the popupmenu, oh and it has gordons useless mug on the load screen, but i'm sure you can find a way to get the NS screen up

the only thing that sucks about playing 2.01 on steam is that you cant have 2.x and 3.0 on the same steam installation, unless you use different accounts or keep changing the folder names. seems that ns dont like being in any other folder name than "ns" or it crashes with a divide by zero error.

PLace to download NS 2.0 Beta for Steam - HERE at BRY'S!

You must rename NS 3.0 or NS 2.0 (every time you want to play either one) directories to "ns". No, I do not support it. Yet I do play around with it every once in a while.
