Hi im relativly new to NS, and i've spotted an alien upgrade that you can activate by binding a keyboard shortcut but isnt in the popup menu.

And what does "pheremones" do?

    Alien upgrade not on the popup menu ? I think you are talking about the new alien flashlight. Pheromones were an old sensory upgrade that showed a trail behind marines. It was removed because it was redundant with scent of fear.

    The pheremones upgrade impulse is now bound to Focus (what replaced pheremones) i believe.

    Ah! Pheremones! Those were the days! Didn't really work that well as I recall. Ah, nostalgia.

    pheramones dont exist anymore.

    pheramones did work, but were kind of useless if you had scent of fear, because its just something else to track a marine. pheramones just left a trail of smoke puffs after a marine so you could see where he went.

    Hmm, follow the marine-shaped blur springs to mind.

    The buffs out there will tell me that it is an adapted Rimmer line, from Red Dwarf.

    The *REAL* buffs out there will tell me which episode it was from...

    Pheremones were cool because SoF only worked through walls while pheremones helped you track them through a room. The new alien flashlight tweak makes it more useless then scent of fear ever did.

    "Follow the Rimmer shaped blur!" *Rimmer runs one way, everyone else runs the other*

    That would be the dinosaur episode [Pete (?)]. One of the classics. Tidal wave of.... *shudder*

    1 Dimension Jump point to AlienCow.

    Correct answer is "Pete, Part 1", and is after 'Pete', the bird, mutates into a mini-T-Rex, and eats Bird Man, after being zapped with the Time Wand, which generates probably the best line ever "This machine's amazing! Do you think it does boob jobs, too?" - Kochanski.

    If you'd have finished the sentence "Tidal wave of..." with potatos, then you'd have gotten another point.

    One DJ point for whoever tells me how Lister, and Rimmer, do a mountain of spud-bashing in a few minutes...

    Hmm, thinking back...they use a virus of some kind that eats all the potato skins. And then their clothes. Resulting in much nakedness.

    EDIT: yes i know its not specifically a virus, I can't remember the name for those little things <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I'll give you that one. They actually use the same nano-bots that reconstructed Red Drawf to it's huge size, then downscaled it when Starbug "docked"

    *pauses* Sorry this has nothing to do with the original topic, but it's a classic show. And it shows off my nigh-on encyclopedic knowledge of the RD series...

    Hmm, maybe I'll do a Red Dwarf quiz....

    Yes, Watch the forum, there will be a Red Dwarf quiz very soon....

    Nano-bots! Of course! I almost said nanites, but thought that would be stupid. Eheh. They don't show enough of Red Dwarf anymore, gotta be one of the best series ever.

    EDIT! QUIZ! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    pheramones were to unrealistic. How can a kharaa upgrade feed all the mariens baked beans? It makes no sense at all.

    It was good for a laugh every now and then following the fart trails though.

    Right, ok, someone needs to change the keyboard shortcuts menu then - it still says pheremones, not focus.

    Red Dwarf - one of the best shows / books there is. Shame it all went crap in the latest series (plural).

    Wow, NS Forums. The only place to find topics swinging from one subject to almost the complete inverse.

    I think Pheramones were almost completely useless because there was SoF too, but it was cool. Like, the effect, just knowing NS could do ANOTHER thing that other HL mods couldn't made me happy. It'd be interesting to see SoF and Pheramones combined. Eh?
