Non Steam Ns

i was wondering if there was a way to get ns 3 to work with out steam i know won is down but this is for a lan party. as it stands now we can get a server running but as soon as someone tries to join it the server crashes, so is there a way to get it to work with non steam half-life? if not is there an older version that works?

    Check the technical support forum for an answer on how to play NS on a LAN. I know there were issues in the past, I'm sure the regulars down in that forum can help you out.

    Getting 3.0 to work on an old WON-install of HL should be possible by simply moving the ns folder into the correct installation, but I won't make promises regarding a bugfree gaming experience.
    As for older versions, we supported WON up until 2.0. There are still download sites offering these older builds.

    ya i have it installed in the right folder, i can host a server fine and play by myself but when someone joins it crashes, thanks ill try 2.0

    i use won to make ns maps still, and i use ns 3.0 beta 5 on won, and have ran a beta 5 server on won and it worked. the only bug was that the say bar and the team say bar that goes across the screen when you type looks like barcode. but when the message is sent, you can see it fine.

    i dont know about ns 3.0f or 3.1f, i have not tried them yet. maybe you have a problem with metamod or some metamod plugin?

    with the crashing when people join, it sounds like a bad version of metamod, because older versions of metamod didnt have the new ammopack entities and crashed when someone dropped their weapons.

    Are you running a dedicated or listen server? It might make a difference.

    You should download the cs 1.6 non steam install, then just copy your ns folder into it. It works for me, tested with 3.0f
