Random Team Really So Random?

This is for CO mode. Not sure if it'd be the same for ns mode cause I rarely play it in pubs.

Anyway, something I've noticed in the few days ns 3.0 has been released is that whenever I go for the random team selection, I almost ALWAYS get stuck on the aliens' team (I think random team has put me on the marine team like twice or something)

Usuall I prefer going random team in games to balance the teams but it gets kinda boring always being on the same team all the time.

My only explanation for this is that random team puts the first player on the alien team and balances the team from there (ala dod auto selection)and that the server reaches me over the net first and thus, I get put on the aliens almost all the time.

Could this be possible or is there some other factor into this phenomenon?

    It puts a player on the team with least players, as far as I know. And usually, there's about 6 people sitting in the marine doorway, which means that there's at least one person on the marine team, so when you go random, you end up on alien. And then one of the 6 marines in the doorway joins Marines, so the next person to go random also goes alien.

    It's really annoying because I usually go random all the time too. I've often asked for team doorways to just be taken out of public games (but kept on in tourney mode since clans need to stay in one team etc...), and have them all just lead to random. There is an AMX plugin (i think) that does it, but I'd really like it to be official.

    Ahhhh.... But I can dream <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    it won't take long for word to spread that you can just bind keys to the different team joins the problem will change to people sitting in the RR hitting the same button over and over rather than sitting in a doorway waiting

    hell some one will probably even write a script to spam it repeatedly until you get assigned

    Can still just bind it to a key and tap the key over and over.

    I knew about that as well, just it's easier to explain the doorway thing <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> Plus you can actually see the doorway thing.

    Just make a config file which executes the jointeam command 5,000 times. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Even if you were sent to the alien team 300 times in a row, it would still be random. If something is truly random, then things like this are expected.

    As far as I know natural selection has always auto-bound the team join commands to keys (which I will not mention if there is actually a soul that doesn't know them by know, it's not rocket science). One possible deterrent would be to have the team join command kick you OFF the team back to the ready room if you are ALREADY on the team. That way it would be risky to just mash the key repeatedly or use a script.

    That said, I almost always go marines when I can (if it looks like everybody is waiting for an alien to join, I'll just cave and go alien instead of being an ****) because I am just simply a horrible alien player and gain little satisfaction from it. That has changed a bit with 3.0, now that it seems it's a bit easier (and more fun now that sensory and movement are viable) to be an alien, and I've actually started to see the trend reverse ever so slightly in that often the skilled players end up marine because it's actually quite challenging now.

    I'm pretty sure if teams are balanced using random sends you to the team with the least amout of points/kills. (I apoligize if this has been said)

    Every once in a blue moon (if I hit the Random key soon enough) I'll be placed on a marine team. It's like a rare treat, but quite honestly with 3.0F alien has become a lot more fun. Having cloaking reworked and all the other changes makes it pure bliss to gas, web, bite, and stop your opponents to death <!--emo&::lerk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/lerk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='lerk.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    On a more serious note, the random team will put you on the team with the fewest players.

    Being there is only 2 teams, 50/50 using autoassign to get onto either, so if u press your random bind and then readyroombind on an empty server, you will see its probably not so 50/50, but over a long enough period of time it will be 50/50

    It may put you marine 10 times in a row, then alien 5 then marine 2 times again but it will eventually be ~ equal.

    But first and foremost, it auto balances the teams, and seeing as most games with an odd number have one extra marine, then ofc it will put you to alien.

    *edit, this makes no sense but I have a fever today, and little makes sense to me <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    What he said. Anything is possible, it's random after all.

    Random team sends you to a random team, IF both teams have the same number of players (Score, afaik, has no calculation in this.)

    IF one team has even one more player then the other team, you are sent to the team with the lesser number.

    To put it bluntly: Stop playing on servers where everyone tries to go marines. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
