Lerks Are Fun As Flying Skulks

<div class="IPBDescription">I got accused of hacking</div> I was playing a co map as Lerk and doing really well. I had scent of fear and celerity and I was just flying around killing tons of marines with the lerk bite. I had the most kills on my team and then everyone from my own team starts calling me a hacker. Apparently since I am really good at flying super fast through tight hallways and picking off marines then making a fast escape, I must be hacking somehow. I wish people would think a little bit before making absurd accusations. How could I possibly hack to make myself fly around so well or whatever.

And no, I wasn't hacking o.0

Also, I wanted to start a new discussion on Lerk flight. I really love it now that I learned how to fly. You have to tap jump a few times to get up to speed then hold down jump to glide saving your energy. The hardest thing is to not run into any walls. you have to have great mouse control to navigate tight hallways at fullspeed. Getting stuck on a wall can get you killed if you are flying away from marines.

I am getting tons of kills with lerks now in co after I have celerity since the marines can't ever aim at something moving that fast. My strategy is to do laps around the hallways doing flyby bites on any rambos. I am also getting much better at chasing jetpackers. the trick there is to hold down jump to glide towards them while holding attack to get them. If you flap your wings too much you can run out of energy and not be able to attack the jper. I tried focus, but I prefer the lerk's natural rapid fire bite, it lands more hits and lets you concentrate on the flying instead of landing the bite.

I guess the reason I got so good at super fast lerk flying is since I got a new gaming PC for HL2, 2.8Ghz Radeon 9800 Pro, 1.5GB ram so my fps never drops. high fps is a pre-requisite of uber lerk flying. It only took me a couple of days to get really good at it and I am still getting better. I only go lerk in ns maps if I have a movement chamber for celerity

I still can't fade very well yet, I can't stand having to switch weapons to blink, thats why I like lerk because you don't have to worry about fumbling around with different weapons to move really fast. <!--emo&::lerk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/lerk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='lerk.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Hmm... I like the lerk flight too... but you may want to rethink your opinion on changing weapons. All aliens have to be able to quickly switch, even the lerk. Spore and quickly switch to bite and divebomb a marine. leapbite for skulks. etc. hud_fastswitch 1 ftw. ^^ In case you didn't know. Fading is tough, to be good anyway.

The trick is to hold down attack, hit 2 and then 1 immediately (you can use q or a script if you want, but I like it this way). You can perform it as one fluid action, without having to fumble around. It does take some practice, however. Make sure you have hud_fastswitch 1.

Its just that using the fade just isn't very intuitive. It requires custom configs and scripts. The fade is almost useless without these scripts, the developers should include these scripts with the game since they are obviously required to play fade at all.

Aside from that , I don't have the skill to blink around nearly as fast as I can zoom around with a celerity lerk.

It just takes tons of practice to do something as a fade, I don't use scripts either and I find myself quite comfortable. It took some time to get the hang of it though.

LISTEN. There is no fade that plays at a seriously high level that uses blink swipe scripts of any kind. There are no blink scripts, no meta scripts, no blink-swipe scripts or any other kind of scripts that good fades use. Every script you could try to use will SLOW YOU DOWN.

Stop talking about how good fades use scripts, they dont. Its all fastswitch 1 and lastinv, or fastswitch 1 and the normal slot keys.

Ever since the, "Where you look is where you go" model came out, the lerk has pretty much turned into a ballistic missile. In CO or not, you can zing around levels scouting, ambushing, and supporting faster and more efficiently than other classes. The only problem with the lerk, is that it lacks skilks other than attacking standard marines.

I remember the days of 1.0 flight and bite. The lerk was alittle more sturdy then I believe, or it was just because people were still getting used to NS, but you used to have to something like a power slide around turns in order to maintain speed. This allowed you to fly around a room and gass people without running into them. And you could Fly above the heads of marines, look down, and bite them without loosing speed. The new flight model makes you either fly into them, bite them, then do a vertical escape, or come in from above, dive bomb, and make a vertical or lateral escape.

IMO, the lerk is the best hunter for finding two or less sized marine teams and eliminating them, and good for harassing medium sized standard marines.

I still miss the days of umbra being emitted around your body. Good to protect your self, and others in tight spaces. It wasn't uncomon to see two lerks switching off with umbra while a fade would acid rocket the marine base. Ye good ol days.

A custom keyboard configuration is helpful, yes, but custom in this case means having the weapon switch keys rebound for easier access. Scripts for the fade are pretty much worthless to any good player with a decent keyboard/button configuration.

You must have been playing on an unskilled server.

Just wondering, what would alien hacks do? The best I could see is a hack biting as soon as within range of a marine. But it wouldn't be able to blink around skillfully or anything, or lerk properly.

    Unless I'm missing something.

Oh, and I use hud_fastswitch 1 and 1, 2, 3 and 4 for fade AND everything else (such as skulk lerk onos gorge marine...).

It isn't unintuitive, it just takes skill and practice.

When you press the same slot as the weapon you're currently holding, lastinv overwrites the real lastinv for that one

For example: You have your lmg out, you get your pistol out and then press slot2 again.

That would make it forget to go back to lmg.
