Laserscopes And Lights?

<div class="IPBDescription">Dumb questions....</div> I have no clue about halflife models and modelling, but would it be possible to a) add a short thin red laserline to the marine helmets (like there are in the artworks) and b) have real "lights" on an armor?

Hrmm, you seem to forget that these things are not quite doable with the halflife engine. Half-life hates lights. Thats why when you turn on your flashlight your whole body glows, unlike AVP2 and UT2. Lasers could be done, but Im thinking it would simply be a red stick modeled onto the helmet like the laser was on the Quake 3 shotgun; Just a well-skinned red stick.
Body lights Ive never sen, and I assume they'd create a flashlight as usual or "shoot-me beacon" as its so lovingly referred to.
Sorry bro...no laser lightshow for you.

A more simple way to do lights on armour could be to use sprites, like the big blue monster from Half Life's glowing mouth. That might look groovy, but I haven't a clue how to do it.

(edit) That wouldn't work for the laser line, but it could do simple point light type things.

well if the laserlines would be thin red sticks, i wouldn´t care as long as they look good <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

alas i have no clue about modelling/skinning so here is hoping that someone will do this someday.

you can add lights to the players body, just add attachments to the player skeleton, this is how those xen plant things work in hl, but it wont display in ns unless they precache the sprite in the player code. the helmet laser can be done (same way) in the ns code, but you wont see a "line" from the players head to the target the players looking at in 3rd person mode. itll only be visable from a "v" perspective like the sniper laser dot in tfc.

ok, this is just confuzeling me, wouldn't adding a laser to something (by adding to the moddel) be like creating spiked models (something HL dosn't let you do anymore)

seeing how as if you can ad a 3 inch line you can also add a 3 yard line that goes through walls (don't yalls just love spiked models?)

The individual mod is the only thing stopping people from using spiked models. CS is the only mod I know of that enforces models that way.
