because laptops arnt really upgradeable you should probably think of getting a new pc, you could probably build a decent 100fps machine for £300-400 though of course it would suck for games that arnt hl (hl2 for example!). If a new pc isnt a possibility then reformatting and just keeping the minimum possible number of programs running in the background is your best bet,
Is there a vsync issue or something.
Spec is A64 3500+, 2x XFX GF 6600GT Gamer edition 128MB PCI-e cards, 1x gig Corsair TwinX XMS PRO, Asus A*n-SLi Deluxe m/b.
I reckon a system of my specs should top 150fps. Anyone willing to help?
also, you need to set fps_max to 100, as the default is 72
Anyone know the command for nerfing vsync?
If you have an LCD, then you might not be able to get higher than 60hz.
Don't think it's a vsync issue, seeing as it sticks at 60, even at 800*600, which the monitor chews up at 150Hz
100 fps constant but when I hit heavily populated area's and spores galore with all the marines shooting it goes down to 40 sometimes :/

HOW? I get 100 fps at times but it just sky rockets down to the 40's at times. I heard of some ati thing in the config, does this do anything fps wise?
ati_npatch "1.0"
ati_subdiv "2.0"

I just reinstalled my computer and it plays smoother then before. Now you may laugh <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> / <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> I used to get around <u><b>10 to 15 fps</b></u> but now it goes up to <u><b>max 25 fps</b></u>. All the settings (except sound) are set to minimal.
So please stop complaining about bad fps, as I know how bad fps can literally kill you. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the game, and lucky enough I don't know what it is to play with 100 fps (and what you don't know, you don't miss, at least not that hard ^^).
- Though I enjoy the game, it's the most enjoyable when I am commander and win, as the fps (weirdly) affects less my intrensical capacities ^^.
- As a marine I can see that other rines walk a bit faster then me, and it takes longer to empty my gun then other players. It's much better after I reinstalled my computer, but I can't get those ten bullets out of my pistol in one second. Before the install it took about 4 to 5 seconds. That really sucked. Now it's in a good two seconds.
- As an alien I mainly go (if I'm not skulk) gorge (most of the time) or lerk. I never go fade as the blinking doesn't run smooth (enough) on my computer in order to be a good enough fade.
Just wanted to share that with you guys, you shouln't complain to much.

It would seem that the only number that my net_graph is capable of displaying would be 60.0fps. Nothing drops it lower, not even a 32 player co_cs_assault-athon...

Hey there smart guy, the max FPS the HL1 engine can render is 100. What you are seeing is what it could be rendering, not the actual framerate you are getting. Better luck next time though.
and since i rarely visit any other servers than my own, that wont be a big issue.
