I first found out about this on <a href='http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/03/11/2359226&from=rss' target='_blank'>/.</a>
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->AOL has posted new terms of service for AIM, that include the right for AOL to use anything and everything you send through AIM in any way they see fit, without informing you. A sample passage: "...by posting Content on an AIM Product, you grant AOL, its parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, assigns, agents and licensees the irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide right to reproduce, display, perform, distribute, adapt and promote this Content in any medium. You waive any right to privacy."<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
So in other words, if you type anything into AIM, a whole lot of people can get it.
My question: does this apply to people who use 3rd-party clients like Gaim, Miranda, or Trillian?

*Crosses fingers* I hope not, I hope not, I hope not, I hope not...
My guess would be that they have the right to try to unencrypt it, but I'm sure they wouldn't bother.
If you're using trillian, then you can enable the secureIM functions (AIM and ICQ only, have to change the account settings). That'll at least give you basic encryption.

Do you need Trillian Pro for that, because I tried looking for it and I couldn't find it
edit: nvm, I found it.
Or you can just convince the internet-inept to switch over off their 'beloved AIM'. Since basically everyonce uses it instead of more exciting and cool alternatives. Good thing my conversations are generally "Yea, so when can you pick me up for work?" Ohhh, please don't use them against me!

yeah, it's basic, it's just hidden away.
You're also going to need to get everyone else who uses trillian that you IM to do the same.
No need for the FBI to tap up your phone line now <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Nope. They have other methods. Since the government owns the airspace above the country, they decided they own the air. So, unless you speak under water in international waters, they own whatever you talk about. You use their air to communicate, you pay the price.
