Freeze-lagging

Loss of control
Well, I have a gameplay problem where about ever two minutes my mouse and keyboard responses will freeze for about 1 second while I drift in the way I was running and my cursor doesn't move. It's almost like it's sticking sometimes too, and it really messes up my marine game when I can't aim. At first I thought it was my hardware, but it only ever happens in Natural Selection, and no other game or when I'm using any other application. I haven't tested it on other HL 1 games, so I don't know if it's just NS-specific.

I already tried completely reinstalling NS, and it didn't change anything. I've also tried changing rates, and turning down the graphics but nothing effectively works. It seems more predominant with the marine side, whereas on the aliens I'll occasionally catch myself drifting and unable to turn... I'm running a Radeon 9200SE 128MB, but it's on OpenGL because I can't get Direct3D to work properly. Could this be the problem? Also, my motherboard supports AGP4x, but this is an AGP8x video card, yet I have no other problems like this in any other game.

Also when bringing up the tech tree menu, (I use ALT), it lags and freezes the same way and sometimes I have to take it down and bring it back up to work properly.

Less Urgent:
I've also been searching all over the place for a problem with my keyboard not being able to handle multiple commands at once. I'm unable to hold CTRL to duck while moving forward (using WSAD setup), and press spacebar to jump at the same time. However, I can run forward and jump or hold CTRL and jump. I also can't move backwards and strafe (pressing S and A) and jump at the same time. My marine dodging has been suffering, and I've had to bunnyhop using the right mouse button as duck (which is actually alot more comfortable than holding CTRL for hours at a time).

So, I'm pretty sure my locking keyboard problem has something to do with combination keys; pressing CTRL + SPACE + <key> is assigned to some command on my computer that overrides the game commands (and I have nullified all of the keyboard combination commands I could find). Another speculation I have is something to do with my USB port plugin for my keyboard, and it not allowing more than say 3 key commands to register at once... in which case it could also be a motherboard problem.

That's alot of stuff to read, and thanks in advance for anyone with some advice.
I have even been thinking of reformatting my computer in order to hopefully fix it and eliminate anything going wrong, because I'm quite dedicated to making a valiant return to Natural Selection after learning it's being ported over to source and also going retail.

EDIT: In Beta 5 I didn't notice this problem, but I was rarely playing before 3.0 Final was released a few days ago.

For your video problem... what graphics card are you using?

I was using some piddly Radeon VE 32MB card, and a specific effect in HL mods (such as the phase gate in NS, or dust clouds in DoD) would cause my controls, but not my screen, to freeze. Whatever I was doing right before the freeze, it'd keep doing...

The only solution I found was to upgrade my video card. I switched to a $50 GeForce FX 5200 128MB as a temporary solution until I can get the card I want. If you have a decent card and still experience the problem, I don't know what to do.
