Option For Numeric Damage Turned Off?!

I really loved this feature...
I see in the change log that the numeric damage option has been turned off... I believe they are referring to the server option that allows players to see little red damage numbers floating up from things that they damage...

Please! Re-enable it! This was a great feature and I looked long and hard for servers that had it enabled. It's really handy to know if you're hitting something. I've sat somewhere for ages shooting at a building, only to realize I'm not even hitting it. It's also really usefull to be able to gauge the effectiveness of an acid rocket or a bile bomb.

So once again, undo this change please.

Regards, Guspaz.

ussually if you have your aimer on a building, and your shooting at it...your hitting it.

This was disabled because it was basically a wallhack; it allowed you to see where things were being attacked and how much damage was being done even from across the map. Developer options are not generally a good thing to leave in the game, therefore it was removed.

Ditto! I always liked it.. Stinkin acid rockets barely missing turrets..

Edit: Why can't they just make it enabled for just yourself. When YOU are hitting something, YOU can see the damage, instead of everyone seeing the damage that everyone is doing.

They shouldn't have simply removed it, they should have placed limits on it.

It's seeing around walls feature was very nice. I could quickly pop around a corner and fire a bile bomb and strage back out of view, and see how much damage I did to how many buildings. Or I could shoot an acid rocket and see what buildings I damaged that were out of my view range. Or as a marine you can shoot grenades around corners and see if you're hitting anything.

These changes are positive, all of them. Both teams get the same advantages and disadvantages from it, so it doesn't unbalance anything.

Disabling it was silly. If you don't want to play with it, use a server that doesn't have it. If you DO want to play with it, by all means, find a server that does!!!

They didn't even implement a solution like only showing damage counters within a certain range.

And, Omega, I liked being able to see damage done by my teammates. Say you and a teammate are fade attacking something. Helps to know what he's damaging most.

Now, here's a novel idea. Aliens are supposed to have hive site. So how is seeing damage accross the map bad? They're SUPPOSED to be able to have a partial wallhack.

I think the solution would be to make it a cheat, that only worked with sv_cheats on. That way, you can't have it on a normal server, but it will still be there for debugging and testing purposes.

I've only seen it on a few servers but I never really though of the implications. A marine could just spray fire all around a room or lob a grenade and wait to see where the damage indicators appear, bingo, no more cloaking.

I agree it doesn't need to be on on servers for playing games, making it a cheat would work IMHO.

Making it a cheat IMO would not work at all. In order for a server to have it on, it would be required to enable sv_cheats, opening the server to all manners of horrible cheating!!!

It was previously a server-side variable, this is how it ought to stay. The server admin chooses to have it on or off for everyone.

Shadowics: You see blood from cloaked aliens anyhow, that's already an indicator. However, this is not a reason of why it should be turned off, it's a reason of why it should be modified for normal gameplay. A simple solution is cloaked units do not produce damage indicators!

I think it was invaluable for testing bugs and whatnot. I would REALLY like to see it back in, but off-by-default, and needing actual console work to use, rather than the GUI.

I mean, for testing damages or finding bugs or just playing in fun mode, that would be cool.

Actually, this ties in with something else...

Give the server a 'fun' mode, along with casual and tournament. Fun mode would allow the enabling of various fun additions such as easter eggs and such, and would generally be a nice idea to have to place future ideas and testing tweaks under... Such as lower gravity or 'paintball' mode or something
