Any Way To Hack The Crosshair?

I love Natural Selection. I hate the crosshair.

Is changing it as simple as it was in TFC, ie. just putting a new crosshairs.spr file in the Sprites folder? This is one of my major peeves about the mod, let me know if anyone else has changed it and how.

Customizing the crosshair is not a problem.

Changing your crosshairs really isn't a hack unless the devs specifically coded it so you can't..

i hate internet acronyms. i honestly don't know what most of that is saying.

as for banning him from every server, he's not saying he wants a wallhack or an autoaim, he just wants to know if the crosshair is hardcoded into the game to be unchanable, like counter-strike, and if so, if it's possible to replace the crosshair anyway. i agree, i'd like something with a little more flair in the middle of my HUD.

Well...theres a classic understanding and misscommunication. I would wonder as well where I could get some more crosshair models. Does anyone know if there are more out yet?

Sweet Jesus is everyone who plays games 12 now? Is anyone over 20 and remember when hack was term for extending the functionality of something? Sad, sad world we're living in now.

Thankfully it appears more posters understand than don't.

The modelling forum? I'll check it out.

Don't forget to add the "Is every 12 year old that plays a game in need of some Valium? Or perhaps some other 'calming' drug?"

Maybe "hack" was a bad terminology for the young'ns. Shoulda used "work around" *shrug*

Yeah - custom crosshairs = same deal as TFC. I changed mine already to contrast better and be more visible. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Warning understood.

Here's a shot of the crosshair I picked, in-game. It shows up nice against most bacgrounds, and it's big enough to see through firefights.

how do u exactly change the crosshair? i don't think it was explained in this thread...
  • WraithOfDarkWraithOfDark Join Date: 2002-10-01 Member: 1393Members
I wouldnt mind a bigger/better crosshair. The current one is fine, albeit microscopic. But the big and fancy ones sometimes get in the way of long range targets.. what about a huge arrow pointing downward =D

How DO you change the crosshair anyway?...

Download one or make your own using sprite wizard.

Hmm--Perhaps I should make a short tutorial and drop it in the modding forum?

I'm guessing the previous posts were nuked for language, rather than technical details. Am I wrong?

I believe the crosshair used in NS is (currently) your default Half Life crosshair for the magnum. (CS also uses it for zoomed Sig/Aug).

You need to edit the crosshairs.spr file inside the half life valve directory, preferably with Sprwiz, sprview, and a good imaging program. I already have mine edited from earlier days, so I have a slightly more visible crosshair than normal.
