everytime i try the microphone test i get a loud echo noise... sounds like a bat swinging to the microphone and the longer i leave the test on the louder an louder it gets. i can manage to say a quick word before the noise starts though but after that its a loud woosh woosh WOOSH echo sound that wont stop. just got the lastest driver for it to and it still makes that sound. oh and the mic is built into the monitor if that matters. i also tryed the sound recorder option in accessories and it words perfect.

lower the mic gain (that +10dB thing should help yah)

what you are getting is feedback from the speakers (basicaly the mic pics up some oise, comp amps it out the spkrs and the mic picks it back up, repeate)

Might I suggest that you purchase a cheap headset with mic? I'm using the Logitech Premium Stereo Headset for times when I really need microphone communication. Otherwise I stick with my Philips SBC HN110 Noise Cancelling headphones for gaming <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I'm having the same problem, and changing the gain does nothing to solve it.

Check your volume control, and tell it to display recording controls. See if it will let you select your mic for recording instead of mono/stereo/master mix. It won't let me.

The exact same thing happened to me.

I fixed it by muting the mic in my sound card's settings. It still works fine, for some reason, but there is no echo anymore. Also, echo is a lot higher when you are in the test or voice_loopback 1 (this makes it so you can hear your voice in-game, instead of just hearing other people's voices) than when you are in game with voice_loopback 0.
