Graphics Card Problem

<div class="IPBDescription">Need some help</div> I recently started to play video games again on this computer becuase i got dsl again, but I'm getting like 20 frames per second so i figured it was a problem with my graphics card. My card is: 16mb ATI rage 128 ultra

I went to the ATI webpage to look for drives and I downloaded this driver from the ATI webpage in this link:

However when I go to install the driver it says, "This driver is not compatible with the display adapters installed on your system." Did I download the wrong driver(I couldn't find a rage 128 ultra so i figured just rage 128 would be ok) or is something else messed up. My device manager says that its working properly so I'm not sure what to do. Any help would be appericated.

    Chances are the driver just doesn't work with 8 year old cards.

    Errr, nevermind, those are drivers specific to that card, and not their regular all-in-one driver package.

    Still, $20 could get you a card that's a whole lot faster and would have more modern drivers.

    Yeah, and I thought GForce2 card in my laptop is outdated.

    Yeah well I had a better one but it got fried in the computer when I was away so when my mom took it to get it fixed she just told them to put whatever in <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Unfortunatly, graphics cards is one thing I never knew much about. What card would you guys suggest I get. I don't really want to go all out because Im not taking this computer with me to college, but I want to be able to enjoy newer games. Or could anyone give a small break down of what are some of the good/average cards?

    A geforce3 is really cheap (<$50) and it can play every single new game (It plays HL2 fine, for example), although you won't be able to run at high resolutions and detail settings (not like you really want that, if you still have a rage).

    If you want something a little better, then the cheapest card that I'd recommend would be the Radeon 9600XT at about $135.

    Anything between those two prices doesn't have great bang for the buck, or isn't much better than a geforce3.

    Basically anything new will run NS at 100fps.

    R9800 SE. Roughly the same performance as a 9600XT (which are more than $135, amigo) at just about the same cost. You can softmod them, however, to a straight-up R9800.
