To be honest, I'd go one step up and get the MX510. I have an MX500 and it's completely awesome, and the 510 is even better. Those two extra buttons are very useful, too.

I'm in the market for a new one also, and I've heard nothing bad about the Logitech 510.

The 510 model doesn't have tilt-wheel technology, FYI. However, as a onetime owner of an MX510, I can say that it is an all-round excellent mouse. ^_^

Just get the MX500 then. It's two thirds of the price and all you lose is the purdy red/blue cover and an amount of accuracy so small that you wouldn't notice it unless your sens was set to 0.01 and you had a square meter mousepad.

I've had the mx310 for a good while, its pretty damn good (at least compared to my old mouse(may she r.i.p)) Pretty good tracking and its quite sexy to look at <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
comes with the 2 side buttons and an extra button on top so thats enough buttons for me. btw yes i'm too cheap for mx500+'s.

The 500 series feels heavy at first but you get used to it. At first the hand position is akward but I find over extended use my wrist tends to not hurt much if at all.

    Mx500+

You better be right handed. It's $20 more expensive than mx310...

I have a mx300, it's a traditional mouse shape... however, my left clicker is a bit worn and doesn't feel right when it clicks sometimes... Does all the other mice 500+ do that?

    Happy user of a mx310!

I like everthing about it except two little things:

-Tthe pads where it slides on get dusty sometimes, could be my "once in a month room cleaning problem" though.
-I find the mouse to be a bit too small for my hands.

    Things I LIKE:

    - optical mouse ftw!
    - wire! no batteries/lagging
    - 5 buttons! easy to go back and forward in your browser
    - doesn't weight much
    - pretty cheap for a good optical Logitech mouse.

I used to use a Razor Boomslang! i still have it but i say used because its the crappest mouse in the world, soo not worth the money or time.

i'd buy the Razor Diamondback, highest DPI on the market. And don't forget to patch your USB-port.

Amen to what Zaggy says. Especially the low weight is a bonus. Batteries are heavy. And there's no chance of lag/interference if your mouse is not cordless.

I'm a bit of a mouse conosuer (cant spell) and I totally recommend the mx510

You mention that lite weight is important to you - don't get mx700 or mx1000 - both use batteries = a lot of weight.

the mx510 is pretty good (about average) weight wise - but there is an extra weight build into it (hunk of copper) that can be removed - if you don't mind voiding your warranty.

as for the mx300 - never tried it - but once you get the extra thumb buttons, you'll never want to go back. Fast weapon switching / voice com has never been easier.

    I highly recommend a mx500 or better - especially the 510.

    "connaisseur"

but yeah I agree with what that guy says. I have an mx510 and I love everything about it! It has the most ergonomic shape I have found and is not too heavy.

seriously my razer diamondback is good but the sens it abit high so ya gotta tune it down. i got used to it in... 3 days? then i got better at ns.

or you could wait out for the logitech mx518... on the fly sens and up to 1600dpi. and left hander friendly too i think. but really i would just get a razer diamondback

No. I have no idea how people started using an "o" in there but its from French and it should most definitely be an "a".

well ive done it. ive ordered an mx510 with a funcpad which better be worth it. i paid $23 for the pad alone

...I paid $10 for my mouse, which, compared to the Compaq one that came with it, is a Godly mouse. It's got a little logitech logo bubble, so I figure they made it. Anyway, $10 mouse - mouse wheel and 2 buttons. I end up inadvertantly clicking the right button somehow, but otherwise it's good. Why would anyone spend more than $20 on a mouse (3 buttons = useful). Once you start getting 5+ buttons it just seems tedious to use them. Maybe it's just because I've only used one for a few minutes at a time.
