[mrel] Hl2 Turret

Illegal? What's that mean?
It's the Combine turret shoved onto the NS animations, so it retains all that nifty target tracking built into NS.

There are a few differences between this turret and the HL2 turret. First is that this is the same height as the NS turret, which means it's shorter than it is in HL2. Also, I had to shorten the back leg so that the turret didn't clip when it rotated around backwards.

I mostly did this as an exercise in converting things from HL2 to HL1, and the result is not very polished. The turret doesn't rotate properly around the axis (That is, it's not centered properly), and the smoke puffs that NS generates are only vaugely in the vicinity of the barrel. I don't plan on fixing those problems, as this is mostly a novelty.

And yes, this is probably illegal. Valve can sue me all they want; I'm not worth anything.

Grrr. The forum won't let me upload .rar files, and a .zip is too big. So what's the solution? A .rar inside a .zip! ::sigh::

And a screenshot, though I imagine you already know what it looks like.

    Very cool, I'm using.

    Good stuff!

I think that if you say that the original is Valve's and that you're not making money off of it (and you don't make money off of it) then Valve can't sue you. I could be wrong though....

Well, "fair use" and "derivative works" are muddied terms at best in this day and age. Mostly I just felt I should mention it in the post because I mentioned it in the topic subtitle. And the topic subtitle was having a bit of fun at Owen's expense, what with him not wanting to "release" his Combine sound pack. I think it's a bit silly that Owen will only give out his sound pack on request because he's afraid of Valve suing him, when Valve couldn't care less. Even if Valve did care, all they would do is ask him to stop. On the same token, Valve wouldn't call out their team of lawyers to stop me from distributing a fan work; the very idea is silly.

[edit] Valve probably doesn't have a "team of lawyers", but Vivendi Universal does. Same principle, though. [/edit]

it's pretty contriversal. but something like this, just porting hl2 **** to a HALF LIFE mod shouldn't poke any interest to valve, except maybe joy that people like it enough to use in other mods. Some say they could sue, stolen intelectual property, others (and the law) say unless you're getting monetary gain then it's not stolen, nor hurting the said company (valve). But laywers can twist laws... so there's always a possibility. But i wouldn't worry with something like this.

Also, very ncie job, i might use it.

Does it fall over? Can you pick it up and walk around with it to have an aimbot? Is it indestructible?

    Sorry, had to.

I would love to see one of those huge servers, where the comm drops 10 turrets, everyone picks one up, and they walk into a hive (with Armor upgrades and medspam, of course). It would be even better with sieges.

Good idea but I dont think it looks that good out of hl2.

Yeah, it doesn't really look good outside of HL2. Making it smaller means you lose a bit of the apparent detail, and of course I had to drop the normal maps completely. You can tell it's the HL2 turret, but it looks _much_ better in HL2.

Thatamos, I don't know what your problem is with the NS turret. Maybe it's just 'cause it's a bit old now? I actually really like the default turret. Like most of the stuff in NS, it's very well done,

Conversions from HL2 to HL1 Mods/Games are to be used for personal use and are not to be released, Valve has said no to doing this, and you will not break their rules on these forums.
