<div class="IPBDescription">Updated?</div> *originally from niteowl in <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23782' target='_blank'>this thread</a>. I thought to update it a bit since he hasn't updated it a while. However, i am starting an even mroe comprehensive list as of now.

By the way - check out Niteowl's new work which is here: <a href='http://manual.nsguides.org/' target='_blank'> Nsguides.org</a>.

This is going to keep going as it goes. Remember, this is a short guide, nothing close to a manual.

<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:yellow'>General Natural Selection Terms</span></span>

<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:yellow'>Official Marine Terms</span></span>

<span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:yellow'>Structures</span></span>

<span style='color:orange'>Command Chair</span>
The Command Chair is the starting marine structure. Easily identified, it is the structure in which the commander of the team sits and operates from. He who approaches the chair and presses the "use" key first is placed inside the chair and commands the battle from an above overview.

<span style='color:orange'>Infantry Portal</span>
The Infantry Portal is the structure from which marines who are dead spawn from. It is the marine's job to protect this stucture along with the Command Chair at all costs. A marine team without an Infantry Portal is a marine team that is about to loose. Without this structure, each marine will not be able to respawn after death. Each Infantry Portal has a time set to spawn. Only one marine may spawn per X seconds. Therefor it is always a good idea to build multiple Infantry Portals.

<span style='color:orange'>Armory</span>
The Armory is where marines get their ammo from, with the exception of ammo packs dropped by the commander. The armory gives free ammo for any projectile fired from a weapon. All weapons are required to be dropped within a certain radius around the armory. "Using" the armory also gives you health at intervals. The Armory can be upgraded into an Advanced Armory. The Advanced Armory allows the purchasing of Heavy Machine Guns and Granade Launchers. The researching of the Advanced Armory also allows the building of the Protolab. The building of an armory itself is vital to the marine team, for it itself leads to several important structures. The Armory is also capable of researching Hand Granades.

<span style='color:orange'>Observatory</span>
The Observatory serves many purposes. It by itself uncloaks cloaked aliens within a certain radius. The upgrades it possese however, are very powerful. The main use of the Observatory is the "ping" or "scan" an area of the map. This requires energy, of which the Observatory slowly accumulates. The primary research the Observatory leads to Phase Gates, using the research Phase Technology. The upgrade the Observatory houses is Motion Tracking. One of the most important functions of the Observatory is the Beacon command, which recalls all marines back to the marine starting position.

<span style='color:orange'>Turret Factory</span>
The Turret Factory alone holds no value. It can be "electrified", where it was a protective radius where electricity attacks aliens. However, the Turret Factory is the prequesite to Turrets and Siege Cannons. After building the turret factory, a radius in which turret's can be built is established. Keep in mind that Turrets require a turret factory to function. If a turret factory is ever destroyed, all turrets that relied in it's radius power down until another one is built. The Turret Factory can also upgrade a siege capability. When the capability is researched, Siege Cannons can be dropped in a similar Radius around the Turret. Same rules about relying on the turret factory Apply to the Siege Cannon too.

<span style='color:orange'>Turret[</span>
The Turret is an automated Sentry Gun type structure. It has automated aiming, and has a good range. Damage is light, with a medium fireing rate. The Turret must be built within a radius of a Turret Factory. Without a turret factory, a turret will no work, and will power down. The Turret has a 360 degree field of vision.

<span style='color:orange'>Siege Cannon</span>
updating later.

<span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:yellow'>Weapons</span></span>

<span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:yellow'>Upgrades</span></span>

<span style='font-size:11pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:yellow'>General Terms</span></span>

<span style='color:orange'>Commander</span>
The Commander is the player who looks down on the battlefield from the Command Chair. The Commander is the chief player in which orders the marines around the map, and "drops" structures to be built. What the commander does is what the marine team must go with. The commander has full access to the marine structures abilities. He is the one who upgrades and purchases weapons. However, if the commander is doing a bad job, the rest of the marine team can vote to kick him.

    "GT good try" is on the list twice. I think scan should be added along with ping. I also think "SC siege cannon" should be removed. I have never seen this used, and if I ever do see someone say SC, I will think of sensory chambers. Other than that, it looks good.

    You forgot:

    "OMG u flipping noob": this means either someone on your team is angry that you didn't understand them,or that this is a cocky elite d**k who hates all new players. Respond by ignoring him for the rest of the game until he calms down.

    "lamer": defined as spawncamping the starting point of either side,using excessive grenades without any real use (basecamping for example), or cloaked skulks with focus on or not. Resist to urge to call them so,but swear revenge.

    "Suite-Pee (player)": will suggest crazy and imaginative ideas in his presence. Either laugh and do so,or ignore him and play on.

    "CO"= combat map.
    "NS"= classic (natural selection) map.

    <b>bait</b>

    Verb. To lure the enemy into an ambush. An example of alien baiting is for a skulk to run around a corner and parasite and attract attention and then run away to lure marines into an Onos or Fade ambush. An example of marine baiting would be to fire empty pistol rounds or call for health packs to appear helpless and when the alien approaches whip out an HMG or shotgun.

    The problem with these threads is they span to 5+ pages, then people just post repeated suggestions over and over. A good sticky with one initial post and nothing more would be ideal.

    Im sure we have all necessary acronyms listed in one of not both of the 2 threads. Making up ones (R4K <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> ) as an excuse for posting is of questionable usefulness.

    Also, when people shout "fade" or "onos" they mean that aliens have reached the point where they have enough res to create these powerful aliens. It means that marines have to be a lot more careful and should probably travel in packs.
