Ns2 And Ns:source

SintaxErrorSintaxError Join Date: 2005-01-08 Member: 33940Members, Constellation
Ok I am not sure if these will ever happen but i heard rumors.

If ns2 comes out as it's own game, store bought
And ns:source comes out on valve steam

Wouldn't this split the NS community into 2 O_o
Will there be any merging going on with this 2 games if they come to be?

NS:Source will obviously be on Source, and will probably(if work truly begins) come out very soon. NS2 however probably won't come out for many years- if Flayra doesn't get the funding he needs, it may be on a next-next-generation engine.

oh ok, sounds good, but I think Flaya will get the funding if he gives or sells or w/e to valve for ns:source, valve would have to pay him money I'm guessing which he will use for ns2

That's the worst thing that can happen... Selling ns to valve?.. No please... I dont thing Flay will sell his own child to some retarded company... That will be the day we can bury everything cool about ns...

Im sure concept of NS2 is unique and interesting enough to get attention of many investors... Look at the quality of games on the market... more than half of them are just bs... But somebody invested them...

Yeah I guess so just if it went to valve and it was listed under My Games for Source that would attract alot more people to play which means more money for Flayra, but Im guessing from what you said , Flayra isnt in this for the money he loves NS. But then again he needs to make a living and that money could go toward ns2 but this is just a idea xD

guys I'm quoting Flarya from this interview here about the question with valve you discussed about:
    ftp://games.surftown.dk/ns/pr/NSinterview.mp3

this part starts at 45:16 mins

the team has been asked if they wanna work with valve to make NS to become an official MOD like CS or DoD
Flayra: "[...] oh oh oh! for that happen I think valve has to buy the rights to [...] like they've done it with DoD and CS, and they have not offered and I'm not interesed. so I think that's never gonna happen."

there you go. now you can sleep without having nightmares

Why would the community be split in two? There will always only be one website, this one, for the game itself. Why does NS:S have to be on a different website entirely, instead of just having an alternate download section for it and maybe a few changes? The forums would probably just have an alternate to everything they have now for the source counterpart, but off topic, artwork, etc.. would all still be left the same.

I can predict this community will still be together in five years.

I don't see any point in why the community should split up.

NS 2 will be a single player game. - so it's just another "version" of NS you're going to play if you are in the mood to play it.

NS source will be the version after beta 6 (that's how the crew in the interview said it) and so I think everybody is going to move on to the source engine with the team around Flayra =)

So I don't see any problems there.

We definitely will be doing everything we can to make sure the community doesn't split up. NS:S will probably take the place of NS eventually (though we probably won't make the transition until the majority of the player base has HL2).

Hopefully NS2 won't take the place of NS:S, it will be a new game, quite a bit different from NS (though built off the same 'roots'). Of course all versions will be able to be played for the forseeable future and yes, the center for the community will always be here on the unknownworlds.com site.

that's exactly what I tryed to say Flayra! =) NS source will take place of beta 6 just as you said it in the interview. NS 2 will be a complete different game (that's what all singleplayer games are used to be) ,so it won't split up the community. I also think NemesisZero who is actually managing the whole community won't let that happen! =)

I was curious about whether Flayra would sell the rights too. I'm glad you're not. (No offence to Valve, but it seems every mod that becomes official gets much less fun).

FLayra, let me tell you one thing..... I LOVE HL MODS!! I will not, I repeat, WILL NOT buy HL2 til there is a mod like ES or NS out for it. I really dont care for the single player in HL2 (mainly cause I played it at my friends), n i quit CS after I found NS about 2 years ago. I go to HL2 when you go.

I never once said that the community would be split on the web site, I can see how you would say that seeing this is where veryone meets up on the forums, I ment by, with ns2 and ns:source out, wouldnt that be 2 different games with 2 different communities of people playing online but not together, no wait did you say ns2 would be offline. This is what I dont understand is ns2 online or offline, if its online then there will be 2 similar games ns2/ns:source and they will run on different servers, should we all be merdged into one?

If NS2 does come out, I hope it will be like Doom 3 or F.E.A.R. but original. Have a mix of Starcraft (heroes going on ventures) and mind blowing graphics that will scare the s*** outta you.

    @Genomaxter
I got the same opinion about that! I haven't bought HL2 yet and I won't until NS source comes out.

    @RedDragon
I actually had the same thought about that! I'll donate soon to support the NS team

Well I suggest you get HL2 now anyway, the single player is great fun. But whatever.

Nice to see NS:S won't be 'replaced' by NS2, but as far as I'm concerned once NS2 comes out the Source community for NS will disappear quite quickly, at least for a while.
  • DrummerDrummer Join Date: 2004-02-18 Member: 26654Members
well, from the way i understand it, NS2 will come out much later than NS:S, and therefore, it seems that it will be more of a successor to NS:S. i would love for flay to get enough investors to make NS2 quickly and therefore have 2 ns games at the same time. but from the updates we get, it seems that its not that likely

...unless of course flay wants to different games, in order to make one entirely single player and one entirely multiplayer

The sooner NS:S is released, the more divided the community is going to be as a result. Like Flayra was saying, ideally they want to wait for two things before that:

Some time to pass so HL2's requirements are more realistic and more people own it

The mod community to pick up steam

It would be best, IMHO, if the dev team waited until a major mod or two came out for Source so HL2's mod playerbase is a little larger than the basically nonexistant one right now. Also, it'll always be difficult to know how much of NS' playerbase is able to make the switch to HL2, but the longer they wait the larger that number is probably going to be(as long as it's not so long that NS' own playerbase has shrunk).

Is it still looking likely that work on NS is going to stop once 3.0 is released, in favor of NS:S?
