Vac

<div class="IPBDescription">not another one...</div> Let me first start by saying this is not another thread wondering if or when VAC is going to be implimented, but rather as to the general outcome. I am aware that there are <b>many</b> threads out there pertaining to VAC, but none that cover this specific issue.

I was browsing the bug tracker out of boredom and came across <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/bt/bug_view_page.php?bug_id=0000100' target='_blank'>THIS</a> bug. As far as I can tell, it's the only one relating to VAC in the tracker. You can sign in to view it as guest/guest.

For those that do not wish to go, I've copied the important part:
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->
Summary    VAC doesn't allow gamma to be reset
Description  When we've tested with VAC, the gamma wasn't reset properly when players quit the game.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Now, I know my memory doesn't serve me well, so this may have been covered in one of the posts over the past year or so that I can't remember or couldn't find using the search function. But this bug suggests that VAC did in fact work (sort of) at one point or another. So I'm just curious as to what happened with it?

I'm aware of many people in the past that have suggested VAC wouldn't be implimented until 3.0 was final and such. But <i>if</i> in fact it was working, was there some sort of hold up on Valve's side? or was NS just not ready enough for it?

    get an ATI and your alright with that. ATI drivers make it so that, no matter what gamma you set in your display props, it ALWAYS resets in game. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    But more on topic, NS used ot have similar problems, hence the inclusion of "reset_gamma.exe", just run that afterwards and everything should be fine.

    Interesting find - I never ran over that bug myself...

    All I can say is that at this point, we do not have VAC in the code. We're bugging Valve about it, though <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
