How To Practice Being A Better Alien

I know im not the best kharaa player out there (for now ;] ) but I am getting there, how? Through practice. See there are just some parts of play that you don’t get to practice much BUT ARE EXTREMELY crucial. This post will be about the rare ones and always happening crucial ones.

::note if you already consider yourself highly proficient as a Kharaa, do not feel the need to read the guide and insult it, they are very solid tips to playing well::

v1.02 length: 3 pages

//turret dodging
This isn’t extremely rare, but I see skulks ALL the time, if they cant find something to hide behind and kill the turret factory just give up. Let me show you a design of what normal commanders do now to guard a node

T = turrets
O = open
F = turret fact
R = resource nozzle

TOOT
ORRO
O T O
OFFO
TOOT <(-- circle strafe this one or the other side

Now this covers ever attack point, you cant hide behind anything to kill the turrets, but what if I told you there was an inherent weakness in this design? On the corner angles only one turrets can be hitting you at once, if you take it out you have free access to destroying the factory!

Well get on a LAN and turn "sv_cheats 1" in the console, that way you can go to either side and the game will still be going on.

join marines then "givepoints" in console to give yourself RP, set this design up.

Change to kharaa and go to the spot you made the formation, practice strafing while continually attacking, I know its hard with those big teeth to see what your doing but you will get used to it.

Circle strafe around the turret till its gone, if your new to this it will take you a while to get to the point where the turret will not kill you before you it. (note I got real good at it by starting off as a fade then going skulk to up the difficulty, if its still to hard try strafing just a single turret in the middle of the room.

//Rushing
Easiest way to find a fast rush route is to spectate the best Kharaa player on your team during the beginning of the map, another way to do get on LAN and look at the map in the command console for the fastest route from each hive

//Marine in long corridor you wanted to kill dead? no problem
Just load any random map in your LAN game and practice funneling around the wall/ceiling while going forward, it makes you really hard to hit. Before marines only had to worry about hitting you horizontally, now if you add vertical to the mix you will be going places (IE marine BBQ). Trust me on this funneling is one of the best skills you can do

::How it is preformed::
basically you wanna "funnel" to the marine, go from the floor to the wall, to the ceiling to the other wall back to the floor. It will take you awhile to get to the point you no longer fall, hell sometimes you wanna add falling into the mix just to confuse that poor marine. Remember the more you scramble the less they will damage you. After you have basic funneling down try to reverse on the ceiling or when your on the second wall reverse and go back to the ceiling instead of starting the funnel over again.

//Leaping
This is a VERY underused essential skill to close distance between you and that HMG welding marine in late games, funneling stops becoming an option when if they get less then a second locked on you your dead. Most people who play as the Kharaa don’t even know that you can leap, then leap AGAIN while in midair. Leaping is also effected by where you aim, if you aim up you will leap up for extreme height and distance.

this is an easy one to practice, just experiment with it till you get the feel for it, try doing reverses, the sky is the limit with leaping.

::Places to use leap::
Use leap in Big rooms to get to the ceiling fast and out of sight of a marine. for example the refinery on ns_bast, your under fire give it 2-3 leaps to get to the top then use your funneling skills to get to the marines and bite there heads off.

//ceiling climbing
So you want to be an EXPERT at ceiling climbing? well there is an easy quick way or a long hard way

::long hard way:: try just normally climbing on the ceiling till you can go over any bump nook or cranny the mappers can throw at you

::so easy it should be illegal way::
cl_pitchup 9999
cl_pitchdown 9999

With those settings you can "walk upside down" and basically make the floor look like it’s the ceiling and the ceiling the floor.

//Blinking
This skill is so underused it makes me cry <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
I know you have heard all the tips before but I might have one or two you haven’t

-jump duck then blink
-aim at flat surfaces
-if there is any kind of textures in front of you, even ones you can walk through, they will stop your blink
-you can blink to stop falling damage
-if you see a building is under attack instead of running there blink HEAVILY, it will cut the time it takes by one tenth
-bind a button to "slot3" so you can access it faster, its great for escaping

//Stacking offensive chambers and defensive
This has been gone over a lot on this board but if you missed it Ill give you the basic concept
the more OC's you have in LOS the more damage they do, the more DCs you have the more healing

-totally block of an area with OC's then put about 3 DCs at choke points, they no longer stack healing effects :<
-but OCs on top of each other
-put one sensory chamber in the back row to alert you of incoming marines

//Using the Eat me model
if you have the "eat me model" usually if you can see the note it’s a assured dead marine <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
