-"sv_voicecodec" has two options: "voice_miles" or "voice_speex" \-->speex is the new compression that will phase out miles eventually (so they say) -"sv_voicequality" has five levels: "1", "2", "3", "4", and "5" \-->default level is 3.
The new system is supposedly more CPU intensive, but minimal (they said 1-2% more). Switching from miles to speex made a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE! the default level of 3 is prefectly fine and supposedly reduces bandwidth by 25%. I like level 4, it seems to have a good improvement over 3, and minimal difference from level 5.
Test it out by joining your server and using "voice_loopback 1" Then talk to yourself...you can switch the codec and quality levels on the fly!
I may have read it wrong...reading again it says: <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->sv_voicequality 1 = 2,400 bits/sec, 7.5% of current usage sv_voicequality 2 = 6,000 bits/sec, 18.75% of current usage sv_voicequality 3 = 8,000 bits/sec, 25% of current usage sv_voicequality 4 = 11,200 bits/sec, 35% of current usage sv_voicequality 5 = 15,200 bits/sec, 47.5% of current usage<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
looks like 25% of current usage, so it takes 75% less! WOW, if that's what they mean. I think I'll put it to 5 then.
5 is the highest. You'll notice the most quality difference switching between voice_miles and voice_speex. Did you try the voice_loopback cvar to hear the differences?
to make your own custom banner, you must have a fast download server. although in some wierd cases i have had the banner on my server and it was displayed when my webserver was offline.
instructions for the banner addition:
create gif image that is 340x56 and place it on your fast download server in the ns\gfx directory
i think it can also be animated, but i have not tried this so i am unsure.
