4mb Texture Limit

Does this still go?
I'm pretty sure I heard there may be a 4MB texture limit in maps, although I can't find a reference to it in the FAQs. Does this limit still apply?
I believe the limit was supposed to be because of software mode compatibility. But NS currently doesn't support software mode, does it? I don't think it should, either. It would be totally unnecessary, IMO. Anybody with a computer so out-of-date to make the mode necessary probably wouldn't be able/want to play NS anyways.
The point is, I have a map that's shaping up to be awesome, but it might go over the limit, as its starting to accumulate some pretty mondo textures. So does this limit still apply? Will my map still be able to become part of an official NS release if it goes over?
Thx

It's best to stay within 4 though, give the people with software GFX cards a break.
