The Most Unothradox Game Ever

You CAN win after 3 Hives....
I used to believe the saying "Three Hives == Marines Lose" was true 100% of the time, but now after tonight, its 99.99% of the time. My Marines team WON after three hives where put up. Here is what happened.

HEX and I hopped in a server playing eclipse, joined marines, and knew we were going to lose. They had three hives up, and our main base was are only resource extractor. The Commander left, and HEX got in the chair, cause we were like "What the heck, lets have some fun." So I load up on ammo, and head out the door, and get killed a lot of times by Onos (Dude, that name is perfect for them, except Ohchits would be better). I was frustrated trying to take a close resource place, so I was like "Screw it, I'm going for a hive!" I didn't really expect to get there, with only 20 damage delt to me by Offensive towers. Not only that, but it was ungaurded. I was stoked, and called in for HEX to drop a Factory, upgrade it, and then drop a seige. I was about to finish the siege when a call came in from another hive, saying it was ungaurded and needed a factory. I stopped, told HEX to do it, and he did. We cordinated our two siege factories to be completed, all the while people would spawn and not look at the back of the room to see if we were there. The Aliens were having fun, gloating their victory, taking their sweet time, and then they all swore in unbelieve as both their hives were under attack. After just a moment, they only had one hive, with a marine force fully upgraded and armed to the teeth. It wasn't easy, but we finished them off, HEX and I were totally astonished. I've never, EVER seen anyone remotely come back after a 3rd hive, let alone a full comeback and win! Why did the aliens lose?

My guess would be that they rushed the Marines at the very very beginning, and kept them at bay by their base and the close resource nozzels. They just didn't build up any Hive defences, just having on Gorge go around and make the hives and resource extractors as their team played with the marines. We had 3 "frist timers" that would run around doing nothing, and one picked up a welder on accident, wondered why he couldnt' shoot, and said "Am I the Commander now?"

Anyways, thought I would share, because I NEVER though I would see the day when that would happen. Shows you what good defense really means.

Ha, nice job. But most aliens(good ones anyways) build up their defenses before they go base assaulting. Usually though, once the first or second Onos comes charging into the marine base, it's all over.

Kudos though, by any chance, do you go by the name "Paladin" in NS, and play on the www.joe.to server often?

I still am amused when the Marines lose the game in the first 60 seconds of map start. Long live the Skulk Rush, too bad it can't work both ways.

It can work both ways, you just have to hope that the Aliens are stupid enough NOT to rush (which has happened numerous times while I've played aliens... a lone Skulk Rush is not something to fear), get an Armory up, and drop someone a Welder. Have them heal everybody. It's tough, but do-able given a good team.

    (edit)
Oh, not to mention a LOT of luck, picking which Hive is the one they started out at... perhaps the Marines should have variable starting points as well? Would cut down on early-game rushes, and help the Marines out a little on that score.

Skulk rushes are to be feared if your the commander, and your looking down at your guys, and they are ALL building that Turret Factory. I'm not sure who posted it, but It went something like "What good will a turret factory finished early if no one is around to build the turrets?" When ever I comm on a map at the very beginning, I make sure my troops know "Hey! Skulks approaching fast, only two or three of you guys build. Make sure your shots are good! Don't waste ammo!"

That skulk rush sho'uld happen every game so It shouldnt be a suprise to marines unless they are green. Actually I dont find them that difficult to deal with. Skulks arent that hard to hit. Can take acre of 3 of em with a clip. Plus only one of those marines should be building while a couple watch. The res should be out securing a damn hive.

Never have I won after 3 hives are up but I have taken a hive. Comm built CC in there and when i was last man left i placed and b uilt an Infantry Portal. We lasted a while but they still had onos and we had nothing.

The marine commander knows exactly where the hive is. Just goto the 3 hive locations in the commander view, and listen for hive sounds (like gurgling, and thumping, and other alien sounds). There's your hive.

I've seen aliens lose with three hives because their gorges are too stupid to build O with D chambers...or they build walls of D chambers which..well, do no good. stupid really...they deserved to lose.

I try and get an observatory up early to scanner sweep the Hives - when your troops are communicating with you (as they *should* be) over voice comm, the sounds can be tough to hear.

I've been in a game where my team rushed the V3C hive on ns_hera and won twice in a row.

    Under 60 seconds. Twice.

    We made history.

Yup yup yup, onle lone marine with seige equipment and a little bit of stealthyness can change the game.

I played a game on nothing, and while they were spaming our base, I sent Windelkron out ot the great viduct with a jetpack, shottie, and a welder.

Well, he set up 2 seige turrets and a backup command console, along with an observatory in case things went south.

Hive down. NO more bile bomb/ onos, adn I told the rest of my marines to bail out and head to the generator.

My base was overrun, and I did a last stand, but Windel got into the backup chair and supervised the attack on generator.

1 hive left. We came back, and seiged it.

    Fun.
