Simply put, it's a totally groovy remix of "Singing in the Rain." With a totally groovy dancer.
Grooviest Commercial Yet.

and yeah I meant larger resolution.

It was done by a real dancer, but the head was replaced with the actor from "Singing in the Rain". From the shoulders down, the dancer looks realistic. From the neck up, the dancer looks inhuman.
I really don't know what to say. Positive or negative.
I guess I should have figured as soon as I saw that Omegaman! started the thread...
Someone should REALLY do a musical of The Matrix, the exact same way this commercial was done. With groovy dance music and everyone doing the robot. I mean, how ironic (and simultaneously awesome) would that be, to have everyone doing the robot? It would be, like, robotic kung-fu breakdancing. Oh man, how sweet would that bullet dodging look if they did with style? As long as it doesn't stray off from the whole Reality theme, it would be the absolute bomb, man.

*Pleasure Spasm*
I think the end result would turn out better with The Matrix, as the faces were already mapped for the final battle anyway. Just plug and play (well, after many many hours of motion capture and/or scripting).
Works for me... o_0

Yeah good. Now try uninstalling the pack, then you would be in my position...
Luckily it was easy to find and reinstall.

Yes... a re-ending of Matrix Revolutions, where instead of the lame Dragonball Z crap, they have a DDR contest to determine the fate of the Matrix.
"Versus mode!"
Select your diffuculty!
"'The one' Mode'
Dudem that5 would have owned

I'm thinking more of a break dance battle.
I don't know, this one is just awesome...

This was posted earlier on these forums I believe, but still.
To the original topic, I felt the stillness of the head really added to the surreal nature of the video.
That was totally awesome and you know it.
No! Come on. Try this one. Neo's a machine. He was able to stop the Sentinels through Wi-Fi, and passed out as he realized. The EMP actually worked... Agents are humans put there to keep the dreaming Machines in line. Trinity is human, and 'The One' is an experiment to determine if machines are ready for re-integration into society, to see if they will act logically, or with emotion. His predecessors all chose logic, and so Zion was wiped for another try.
Animatrix, the interviews, and even the two preceding movies all support it (the Zion Rave scene actually serves a PURPOSE in this version... to show that the Machines are learning to have fun, and live life). Also explains how Smith can export himself into the 'real' world.
End with Neo waking up on a table again, and sitting up as Trinity jacks out.. but he's a worker robot. Maybe even pull the camera back to show other 'bots laying on tables, representative of the other crewmembers. (Remember how 'Matriculated' made so little sense? With this ending, it'd be foreshadowing, rather than an aside.)
The Wachowskis disappointed me quite a bit.
Back on-topic, it was done pretty well, considering the variety of poses they put him in, performing motions (whipping his head from side to side) that would be INCREDIBLY difficult to splice out. Plus, the end hat-tip was a nice touch. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The Matrix on the other hand was an excellent movie and the sequels only served in boning the mythos up.
I wonder why that is...
EDIT: Also back on topic, the commercial is great. It's not in your face advertisement like a lot of stuff is these days. It's cleverly done, in a great light hearted tone and I'd love that song as a full remixed mp3. Looks like they had a lot of fun making this ad.

With the arrival of the latest and much heralded Golf GTI, Volkswagen is set to accompany the launch of the car with its most stunning advert ever, which sees Gene Kelly break dancing and somersaulting through Singin’ in the Rain. The ad is sure to be one of the biggest advertising hits of 2005.
The advert starts as the classic clip in the film does with Gene Kelly walking through the rain sodden streets, spinning his umbrella, then, in a blink of an eye Gene Kelly suddenly flips into some of the most outrageous break dance moves seen on TV – certainly not something that would have been experienced in 1952.
Three of the world’s greatest break dancers and body poppers were used to perform some of the most phenomenal dance moves seen on the screen. Each actor wore exactly the same suits as Gene did in his memorable scene. Using the most impressive make up and CGI techniques Gene’s face was mapped onto the actor’s face, making this a seamless advert in which a truly iconic film clip has been updated in the most dramatic way.
“The scene from Singin’ in the Rain is a memorable, classic film moment, showing Gene Kelly at his very best. Volkswagen felt that this moment encapsulates the very essence of Gene and we feel that our latest GTI captures the spirit of the Volkswagen Golf GTI as a stylish and classic car that has, like Gene, stood the test of time. The advert is a positive, energetic and exciting celebration of a classic film moment designed to engage its audience in a nostalgic way, but it also has a modern day feel.”
Interesting facts:
* The title scene from Singin' in the Rain was updated with permission from Turner Entertainment, The Gene Kelly Image Truest, EMI and Warner Bros.
* Over 52 Years after the release of the Hollywood classic the legendary scene where Gene Kelly dances in the rain has been carefully reconstructed at Shepperton Studios.
* It took a crew of 22 men 14 days to put together a set for the advert shoot using meticulous attention to detail, ensuring the advert is as close as possible to the original.
* The dancers used in the advert all had to under go 3 hours of prosthetic make - up , padding inside their suits and wear a wig to ensure that they looked as close as possible to the Gene.
* The music in the advert is a remix of the original musical score and has been remixed by Mint Royale to give it a contemporary feel

Didn't you just defend the movies?
I liked The Matrix: Reloaded and The Matrix: Revolutions. Even if the plot was weak, the visuals were great (although I didn't mind the plot).
The visuals in this commercial were weak, however (to get back on topic).

Well, hell. That... that's a great idea.
--------------------
But along that line of thought, why would the humans have been so cruel to the robots in the Second Renaissance? I mean, how could they rape and pillage every robot on the planet then turn around and "test" them to see if they are "empathetic & human" enough to be reintegrated into society.
You can't oust them on the basis that they are too human and then suddenly turn around and test if they are human enough to be placed back into society. It makes no sense.

I see "Matrix ****", and I'm scared.
Is that actual footage of the movie + dragon ball z music? Or did someone make that? o.O'
(i never saw the second or third one)
