I guess they got into the fanservice habit with FFX-2, but I never expected them to go this far. Here's to hoping that Sephiroth won't be such a whiny *****... or if he still is, that they'll do the right thing and bring in a REAL villain to beat him down and take over.
Personally, I'd cast my vote for Kefka wandering in and handing Sephy his keys, telling him not to scratch the paint. Then we'd have a decent, scary-**** guy as the antagonist/evil genius.
Unfortunately it couldn't be released in the US at that point. Because what's a guy like Cloud going to do when faced with someone competent? Whine? If there are more like him out there, <a href='http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=57357' target='_blank'>Eurogamer</a> has a pretty good no-spoiler first impression article online. I'm quite looking forward to this, though I agree - a similiar movie with Kefka as villain would rock.
Oh i've completed the game, I just haven't seen the ending. Hurrah for conveniently placed scratches on the C.D!
Yes, I realise I could download the ending off the intarweb, but it wouldn't be the same at all without the music, what can I say? I'm a purist. Planning to borrow disc 3 off a friend soon....

Kefka... Kefka is Dahmer. On LSD. The love child of the Goblin King and Pennywise. He'll scare the crap out of you, just to pat you on the head and wave you on your way... because you'll serve his ends, whether you know it or not. Oogie-Boogie, Machiavelli, Rasputin, Violent J, and Professor Moriarty all rolled into one.
Sephiroth doesn't even deserve to lick the bottom-most stairstep to his lair.

But from all the information I have found so far, here's a bit of details.
FF7 Advent Children - Followup movie to the game. I think anyone knows that.
FF7 : Before Crisis - Mobile Phone MMORPG. You play as the Turks :\
FF7 : Dirge of Cerberus - A playstation game that from what I hear, will be released sometime this year. No Cloud, no Tifa, no anyone. This is Vincent's Story after FF7AC, so we can guess that movie will be released around this year too....
FF7 : Crisis Core - Haven't seen information about this yet, but I guess it's a followup to Before Crisis.

Actually, according to some of the people who attended the Venice film fair, they have confirmed that Sephiroth will make an appearance and will be fighting Cloud.
And, as I quote.....

I'm not talking really about FFVII Sephiroth, but more Kingdom Hearts Sephiroth, you know the game where he was actually a challenge.

FF7 IMO was the failure of the series. Generalized "we've heard it before" story, chracters that weren't unique at all, and a total lack of character development.
Hence why I <3 FFVIII.

Final Fantasy 8 was fun, I like it better than FF7. Some of the features that are really different are: Monsters level up with you (That means you can beat the game at level 10!) I think I ignored that so I beat the game at level 100 <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> , getting gil is different, so no I kill this monster and it drops gil. Magic system is different, and they have a junction thing where you can place a certain magic to a certain stat (Example, Curaga on health is more health). The levels really don't matter.
There are other stuff but I haven't played it in years (Last time I played it was the same year it came out).

I liked FF7. I liked 8 about equally as much, but how the HELL can you say the FF7 story has been "done before"?
I've noticed that EVERY FF game that i've played contains at least one character with no personality. In FF7, it was Tifa. In FF8, it was a close tie between Irvine and Quistis. In FF10 it was Yuna, without a shadow of a doubt, which is probably why FFX-2 was so cringeworthy; square attempted to give her a personality transplant, and it went horribly wrong. I think Rikku was the donor personality.
That said, I liked 7's variety of characters; in 8 they are all generic teenangsters.You have the broody one, the ditsy one, the hothead jock, the "helpy help" girl, the cool dude, and the intellegent one. Well technically Quistis was 19 but meh. And if you count Seifer you have "The one that turns evil".
Actually thinking about it, 7's characters pretty much fill those same roles....

Tifa has no personality either way so it isn't really applicable.
Barret is the hothead
Cid is the cool dude
Aeris is the "helpy help" girl
Red XIII is the intellegent one
Yuffie is the ditzy one
Vincent is the broodier one

Meh, however you look at it, most game characters can be put into one of many cookiecutter roles.

*NINJAR EDIT!* I didn't like the junctioning system in 8. It was a good concept, except that it made levelling up near pointless.
7 has the best story.
8 has the most awesome cutscenes of ANY game EVAR.
10 has.... blitzball? Well it has the most awesome intro anyway.
