<div class="IPBDescription">For building up strategies :O</div> Now this threads purpose is to tell people things like: "In how many seconds can one marine build a resource tower?" The bad thing is, I don't know these things, so you have to tell me and I'll list them up here, ok?

I don't know about you, but I myself think these can be very useful, especially when building tactics.

NOTICE: If there is a site where these thingys can be found, don't take your FL43MGUNZ! Just tell me about it.

kthxbye! <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif' /><!--endemo-->

- It takes 30s to knife an alien RT alone.

- It takes 15s to build up a marine RT alone. (a civilian)

- Each team gets 1 res for each rt they control every 4 seconds.
So each rt gives you 15 res per minute. Which means that it takes a whole minute for an rt to pay for itself. (Router Box)

- A built hive takes 180s to complete. (SLizer)

- The "Advanced Armory" -upgrade takes 180s to complete. (SLizer)
</span>

    Most numbers can be found in Balance.txt in your 'ns' folder. Don't trust any attack rate numbers that you see in there, though.

    For instance,<!--QuoteBegin-Era Jorma+Feb 1 2005, 01:06 PM--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Era Jorma @ Feb 1 2005, 01:06 PM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->"In how many seconds can one marine build a resource tower?"<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    From Balance.txt:
    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->#define kResourceTowerBuildTime 15<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->So it takes 15 seconds.

    balance.txt variables are often only used for internal testing & the actual values are usually hardcoded variables in the server.dll's which may or may not differ from the ones in the balance.txt of the release version.
    Thats in my experience of other HL mods, NS may be completely different & use balance.txt for everything (which makes it highly changeable from server to server depending on the whim of the server operator) but I doubt it.

    one of the main number things you have to know is that each team gets 1 res for each rt they control every 4 seconds.

    On aliens this divides between the players.

    So each rt gives you 15 res per minute. Which means that it takes a whole minute for an rt to pay for itself.

    You can infer so much stuff with this knowledge. Like you should never recycle a built rt cause it will produce more res in the time its up and being eaten than it would if you recycled it. In the comm chair you can make decisions, if you can do the calculations in your head fast enough, about strategy based on how much res is coming in.

    I am aware that Balance.txt does not determine the balance numbers ingame, and editing it will have no effect. It is merely a reference, and is automatically generated (according to xp-cagey) as a part of the build process.

    Civ is correct.

    I'm fairly sure that on a couple of occasions the actual values and the balance.txt have been slightly different. Generally though, the balance.txt is a good representation of the actual in game values.

    Balance.txt is included in the server at compile time. ( via #include ). It is the only place in the NS source where these balance variables can be tweaked. Not every balance variable is controlled in Balance.txt, just the ones that can be tweaked with a simple change to a numerical value.

    Each release includes the Balance.txt that was used to generate the build. Changing values in Balance.txt has no effect on an NS installation.

    I finally added some stuff. We (I) want more!

    f.e. How long does a hive take to be completed?
