Assault On Precinct 13

...
Saw the remake of Assault on Precinct 13 yesterday, and I'm just wondering who else has seen it and what they thought of it.

I personally think it was an excellent film, nothing like the original, but it was damn good. I hate Ethan Hawke, but Laurence Fishburne and Gabriel Byrne always rock

It wasn't as tense as the original, but it had nice action sequences - different kind of film altogether, really.

Thoughts on it?

How much of a "role" does Ja Rule play in it?

lol Ja Rule doesn't have the biggest of roles in it to be honest, don't want to spoil the plot so basically his actions create problems and solutions at the same time.

He can't be ignored, but he isn't the focus.

When I saw the movie, I didn't even know what Ja Rule looked like, so I enjoyed his performance quite a lot. Many people were making fun of him and his acting, but I guess not knowing who he was made the movie easier to like.
However I couldn't stop thinking that Fishburne was Morpheus... his attitude was too similar.
I liked the movie's large amounts of violence. The tricked-out guns were great.
Also, there's a few moments in the movie that are really bold for an action movie... I don't want to give them away, but things that usually don't happen... happen.
