Another bad example. If there's a fade with level 50 hunger then there's a HA on the marine's side with enough reinforced armor, nano-weld, and level5 static field that would squash this fade like a bug.

Point is, if this plugin is exploitable, it's as equally exploitable for one team as it is the other.

The modNS.org community thanks you for publicizing this bug, therefore increasing awareness of this plugin, one of the most popular ones we have available. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Blink wouldn't hold a candle to level 50 cybernetics. I would guess that any level above 15 or 20 would become meaningless as you'de be moving so fast you couldn't shoot and hit anything anyway.
  • im_lostim_lost TWG Rule Guru Join Date: 2003-04-26 Member: 15861Members
The problem when the cost of these upgrades is increased to 2 points is that the menu where you buy them still says 1 point. This is very confusing for people playing with the upgrades for the first time.

Also, I imagine level 50 cybernetics would cause you to die when you ran into the wall. Perhaps +duck, +walk, and +use all at the same time would save you. Maybe not.

no... But you can die if you fly extremely fast into a wall facing a little downwards

No need to run this into the ground, I already ate crow and apologized. *rollseyes*

But an amx version was also released that makes this plugin non-exploitable (at least for the previously mentioned bug).

As with <b>ANY</b> plugin, mod, or game, it is the server op's responsibility to ensure the latest version/s are installed on their server. Notice I said <b>ANY</b> and not just this plugin.

Even if a particular server did not have the latest version of extralevels2 installed, I wouldn't recommend a player "stay away from servers with that plugin until/if they haven't fixed it" ... just report it to an admin or whoever is listed as the sv_contact and I'm sure it will be fixed asap. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Oh, sorry. I read your first reply to me after my last post and assumed that you probably hadn't adressed me again. I didn't intend to be rude.

I allways think it's usefull for people to know about the existance of exploits so they can at least decide for themselves how they should deal with the problem. Even if I knew this exploit was fixed when I made that recommendation, I would have still made a remark to the effect of 'some servers may not have updated the plugin in question and it is a game breaking exploit, so if the server hasn't updated alert the admin and stay away from that particular server until it has'. Fair enough?

Exploits are so much more pallatable to most people than an aimbot or ESP, this makes game breaking exploits so much more of a pain than real cheats; a lot of people that wouldn't touch cheats WILL abuse bugs. As evidence I present the stopcommandermode bug back in 1.03 when it was practically impossible to get a sensible game of NS because even on well admined servers you would see random annoying people join and rather quickly get booted for using stopcommandermode several times every single round. At first I thought, 'oh well, the fun will wear of soon enough and they'll stop being annoying twats', boy was I wrong. Did I recommend people to stay away from NS until a patch/plugin fixed this issue?Yup. Hey, at least I'm consistent.

Also I point out that you could reload the grenade launcher directly from the armory by just filling up on ammo when you have max carriable but an empty GL; a single person could lay down allmost continuos fire. Most people abused this bug and where often smug about it, as if it was some kind of skill. In the rare case they didn't know of it a teammate would often call them a newbie or any of it's more demeaning derivatives and instruct them how to abuse the bug. So I think it's pretty safe to say that most people who noticed the bug in extralevels have either waited for the issue to be resolved or simply abused the bug.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Point is, if this plugin is exploitable, it's as equally exploitable for one team as it is the other.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Only to the people who know about the bug. And it's not like it's remotely playable as intended if everyone exploits the bug to 'balance it out'.

The HL engine doesn't, AFAIK, have any thing to do with it. Only fall damage is implemented in the HLDM source, which is what most, if not all, MODs use as a code base.

It's not terribly difficult to remove/alter fall damage or implement collision damage as a function of how fast you hit something(anything), or even implement angle dependence(e.g. hitting your head in the ceiling hurts more or spins your view angle around like TFCs conc grenade).

Contrary to popular belief the physics of HL is accessible; it takes no 'leet hacking skillzors' to implement wall climbing, jet packs or lerk flight. It's not very easy, it's certainly time consuming, but it requires 'nothing more' than some simple vector math, figuring out the usage of the built in function for tracing collisions along lines in the collision hull of the player, descent C/C++ knowledge(the physics code happens to be implemented in C, so you have to take some care with the declarations when communicating with other functions which are in C++ files, you have to change a whole bunch of declarations if you want to convert pm_shared.c to pm_shared.cpp) and endless hours of playing around with it until it finally works right and plenty of head scratching to avoid unnesscessary checks and simular to keep CPU usage nice and managable. The jetpack(though I didn't bother to change the player animation or fix up the looping of the sound and similar little pains that consume alot of time), a weird directional jump pack(kinda like leap), making snarks follow laser dots from RPGs as well as not attack their owner, leap twice as fast and come in packs of 20, and removing bunnyhopping/wall strafing/gliding without any ill effects I have implemented myself when playing around with the HLDM base, and all it took was alot of time to waste.
