I Know Where They Got The Resupply Sound

soulpiercer7soulpiercer7 Join Date: 2004-09-17 Member: 31765Members

im so frieken clever
The resupply sound when armor or ammo is teleported to a marine was taken from a TV show. To be specific it was taken from Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The sound plays when one of the robots detaches from an airplane.

i played both sounds next to one another and they are the same.

not like anybody cares about this discovery but i feel proud of myself now.

This happens a lot. Sounds get re-used all the time in games/movies. Many times people don't want to do their own foley or editing work so they pick from a library. For example I can think of at least 4 other places where the "Healing Wind" spell sound from Dungeon Siege shows up.

watch aqua teen hunger force. There are so many sounds from ns in that show... everything from the doors to the guns.

yeah, NS doesn't rip stuff off materially, just conceptually.

Like typically skeleton said, they're not the exact same sounds. They're just made to be as close as possible to them, because if Flayra was to 'rip off' those sounds, imagine how much trouble he would be in

They're the same sounds. Most of the sounds in NS are from a commercially available sound library, if I'm not mistaken. Blizzard and Production IG are but a small portion of customers who use it.

The sad thing is when you hear a sound in a movie and the first thing you think of is what game you heard the sound in. Drives me crazy.

yeah, finding a reused sound isnt something major, some protoss sounds can be used in, never ending story (i was bored before school) and some gorge sounds were from Atomic well (i may have the name wrong, but that game was good, in a sense.)

What really irks me is that a lot of movies use the SAME GODDAMNED EXPLOSION SOUND!

I kid you not, almost every explosion in any arnie movie sounds exactly the same.

You guys have heard of the "Wilhelm Scream", right? That's a sound effect going back to the 50s, possibly earlier. Apparently, the guys who do movie sound effects treat it like a running gag, working it into every movie imaginable, and they score points amongst each other as to how often or how subtly they can slip the effect in.

The Wilhelm scream was originally labeled "Man being eaten by an alligator"

    Google it.

Ahhh... he beat me to it. I look for that scream in EVERY movie I watch. And when my wife and I notice it, we laugh....

I was first introduced to the expansive history and use of this scream through NPR: interview here.

With that said, I've heard some NS sounds in movies, commercials, etc. But as said before, it's a commercially available soundpack.

1.04 OC firing sound was the exact sound that the ultralisk makes when he dies in SC.

well of course things are gonna make the same sounds sometimes, I mean how many diffrent ways is there to make a sound for a door opening, or nanites repairing human flesh? but it is fun to see the same files in diffrent places.

You got it. It's called "The General 6000", and is used in far too many productions. We'll be getting away from it in the future.

I could have sworn i heard the "Commander drops weapon" (is that a different sound to meds / ammo?) sound in that cartoon "Codename: Kids Next Door". In the episode with Count Spankula, one of the times he does the teleport thing.

    ...

    What?

Skulk chuckle sound is the same sound one of the creators makes if you click on it numerous times in one of the "lava" maps in Starcraft.

I've also heard the Commander "drop" sound on numerous tv shows, inlcuding a Much Music commercial.
