After a slightly long delay
As many of you may remember the NSGuides program started up probably almost a year ago, we were officially hosted however there were internal problems and we are now a seperate entity. We finished our site and have several articles up, more are being worked on.

The link to the website is www.nsguides.org

We are currently looking for experienced people who are willing to write articles for the site, they can be pretty much anything related to NS gameplay, anything that will help somoene better understand the game.

If your interested please sign up on our forums and let us know.

Note: Someone will probably ask, we are not officially hosted and there is no guide icon, so if you are interested for that reason, I'm sorry but we don't have one. Its not needed to help someone anyways.

Thanks,

Major Chrome

The manual on the main page was begun a while ago by XP_Cagey, who's just too good a coder to waste his time on documentation. NiteOwl's manual will go with NS 3.0's installer.

Great. I've published a link to your site on the Community page as well.

I think you guys will be much more free to act as you like as a separate entity, and it means less work for us also.

If you more seasoned folks are interested, there is a damage calculator in that manual, i'm about 95% it's accurate, but if you find the numbers completely off, lemme know

    spread the link around!

Guides don't really help much with your skill level. It's practice that increases your skills, You can't just read a guide and expect to be able to "own" everyone. It's like a toddler learning, It takes time.

Well the meaning of a guide to me is "something that will show you how to do it right". Thats the model but in reality, it isn't like that is it.
  • Pho3niXPho3niX Join Date: 2003-09-22 Member: 21118Members
It does the job a lot better then the outdated manual...thats obvious. AND its the only widely known manual now. So what do you expect? You read it, you get good understanding of the game, you practice, and practice.

A guide is something to start you on your path to NS ownage. NS (not CO) is an extremely complicated game for new people and this is here to help.

We seem to labor under different ideas of what "getting it right" means. To me, it means primarily to be able to take part in a game of NS and to enjoy the experience - which is something this manual will be very good at making easier for inexperienced players. It won't tell you how to maximise your every move's efficiency, this is true, but that's not the purpose. NSLearn has created some excellent resources to introduce reasonably experienced casuals to higher-challenge-gameplay, but that's only ever going to be the second step.
  • Major_ChromeMajor_Chrome Join Date: 2002-12-18 Member: 11096Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor, Constellation, Reinforced - Shadow
When we were redoing our whole plan, after all of our problems, we though, NSLearn has a great program to help people increase their skill level. But what about the people who don't know how to play the game?

Our purpose is to help new players, better understand the game, so they can at least have somewhat of a clue of what they are doing, and give them basic ideas of how to play each character, hopefully we will get some sort of training sessions going for new players in the near future as well.

Your opinion is fine aswell, but there is no true answer. I just thought about it, people learn in different ways. I learn by playing, some people learn by watching and some are just talented.

    manual = tactics

no skill involved. just the pattern of thinking.
